Need some help OCing Q6600

Thread Starter
I'm using my sig rig and I have a couple questions when it comes to getting my Q6600 higher. Right now I'm at 3.2ghz with a 1.4vcore and everything else (Nb sb etc) at their default voltages.

My goal is 3.4 (I have a really high vid 1.325 so I'll be happy with this) What vcore do you guys recommend to set at for a 3.4 clock? In previous attempts I could not even post at 1.4vcore, so I was thinking around 1.45vcore?

I was able to boot up, which is a good sign, but my main concern is my ram.

I know I can't unlink my ram and cpu on the p35 chipset, but every time i up the fsb the ram clocks up higher and higher, what should i do to deal with this? Lower the multiplier or set the ram to run at a slower speed? Right now my ram is running at 534mhz when it's standard at 500mhz. I'm running prime95 right now...3 minutes and no fail haha.

Any advice on the RAM issue would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, up the vcore to 1.45v. Set the ram at a lower multi, and try to raise your NB up a notch.

You'll have to bump up the other voltages except the SB. Especially the NB.

Okay, I'm running prime for about 30 just to see if it's at least semi stable, about 10 minutes in a so far so good.

Where should I find the "RAM multi" ? I haven't seen anything so far in my explorations of the BIOS.

It should be in your advanced bios features, I dont know your boards bios setup, but it should be the same screen where you o/c your fsb. If you don't have a RAM multi, you should be able to just lower your RAM speeds manually.

It lets me set the speeds like 333/1066 or 333/800 etc etc. When i tried that and set it to 333/1066 it shot up even higher...ill try 333/800 and see how that goes.

Okay...updated info.

Upped the vcore to 1.45, FSB to 378x9 for a 3.4ghz finished product.
Upped the NB up one notch...i think it's at 1.37v? Hopefully that sounds right.
Ram is at 2.0v
All other Voltages are default settings.

I set my ram to run at 333/800 and that is making it run at 906mhz right now, if i hadn't taken it off auto it would be trying to run at 1100 or so mhz which seems a little high but do you guys think it could pull that off?

My main concern, aside from stability obviously, is my NB temperature. Should I be worried about it's temp even though I only upped it a notch? Seems like the DFI DK has decent SB and NB cooling set up, though they are all passive.

Any further input always appreciated.

EDIT** Temps are running at about 61C max so far in prime95 small ftt do these look okay as far as 100% load temps?

EDIT 2** Okay just got a fatal error on core 2 9 minutes into prime95...how can i solve this and make it stable?

Your board should be fine with only 1.37v to the NB. I constantly push my NB to 1.57 without a problem. I would push your ram to 2.1v and see what happens. Whats the VID of your cpu too?

VID is 1.325 (blefk) So I'm not really hoping to go past 3.4ghz, I just want a stable 3.4ghz

I upped my NB the 1.41 and left everything else the same, I'm running prime now...if it fails i'll go up the ram and drop the NB back down

Good. It's easier to tell what needs more voltage when you only up 1 at a time. I'll bump up a voltage, if I get the same result, pull it back down, and up/change something else.
