Pci-e 4x

Thread Starter
Ive got a ASrock 4coredual-SATA2 motherboard its a hybrid with AGP 8X and PCI-E 4x and wanted to know what people think of putting a higher end card (8800 for example) into the 4x slot. Will it bottleneck or even work?

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.as...COREDUAL-SATA2

How bad will it be?

Higher end cards need more bandwidth - i had the model below this board [Asrock Dual775VSTA] and it bottlenecked my 7900GS a little [about 500 3dmark06 points i think]

i can run a card in my x4 slot with no issues, ive run my x1950pro in it with my 3870 in my x16 slot, framerates on both monitors went pretty well with whatever i set as default for 3d acceloration.

Ive run 3870 OC in the 4X slot on stock 2.4 quad and got 11800 3 marks so
it proves the point that PCI-E 16X let alone PCI-E 2.0 is way overkill at this time.

I would go for the 9600gt or the 8800GS...Cheaper and will give you around the same(ish) performance on that board .

I have had a couple of these boards and the pci-e is lame. I got better performance using the AGP on them. They make a great test board though.
