Q6700 OC help?

Thread Starter
Ok, this rig looks like this.

Q6700 at 2.8ghz (280 FSB x10 multiplier)
XFX 680i mobo
8 gigs OCZ DDR2 at 800mhz
VCORE is at 1.368 in Windows (drops to about 1.34 under load)

Now the problem came when I tried to push it to 3.0ghz with 10x multi. Opened up two Orthos and set the affinity correctly. Hit run and immediately locked up. No BSOD (maybe I just didn't give it enough time). Reset, went back down to 2.8ghz, stable at 2.8 and I'm sitting here confused and slightly angry.

Any advice?

Which test, small ffts, blend, or other?
Also what revision is your mobo?

Blend.

And is there an easy way to figure out which revision it is?

Sticker on the board.

Immediate freeze during the blend test usually indicates insufficient Vdimm or NB(spp) voltage.

Well my SPP voltage right now is 1.250. What would be safe for an increase? And my Vdimm is at 1.850v. Increase both? And I can see the stickers, but what will tell me which revision it is?

One at a time, I'd start with the SPP, 1 increment and test.

Should be A1, T1 or something along those lines.

Alright, what I have now.

FSB is 310 1.4V BIOS
CPU is at 3.1ghz 1.4v BIOS
8800GTS in SLi are at 620mhz core/1435mhz shader/920mhz memory
8 gigs ddr2 at 797mhz (not sure on the timing.)

Vantage score = 8502

See anything I could push further?

You ever figure out your revision?
Score looks right for your clocks.

try 400x8 @ 1.3v vCore...it'll sync with your RAM 1:1
...1.4v for 3.1 is too much

you should be able to hit 3.1 with stock volts.

at most, give NB 1.4

and you should have your ram at a 1:1 divider if you can, with the vdimm being what the ram manufacturer reccommends (ie what the label says on the side).

Your revision hopefully is A1, designed specifically for quads.
