Did you recently install some new drivers or a new piece of hardware? If so you may need to uninstall said drivers and/or hardware, using DriverCleaner Pro, and reinstall the drivers and/or hardware.

I would try running some diagnostics. If you are questioning your hard drive run Hirens and choose the Smart UDM utility to see if there are reallocated sectors. The disk is loaded with other utilities as well that will help with troubleshooting.

If the HDD utility shows you are good, you messed around with different drivers and still being sluggish you may want to download Process Explorer. It gives you a lot more detail than windows task manager. It will show if you have a utility dominating your cpu bandwidth.

If you have DPC's (Deferred Procedure Calls) utilizing all of your cpu bandwidth then you are going to have to do some trial and error to figure out what hardware and/or software might be causing you grief. It may be your video card causing this. If you are not using an approved nVidia driver do so and see if it still produces DPC's. If it does and you still get them, then if you have a back up video card install it and see if you can get rid of those DPC's.
