You should probably get the E8400 since you're mostly into gaming and adobe (photoshop I'm assuming lol).

i would go with the Q6600 if i was you. its not as fast but its a quad core and can be overclocked to decent speeds. You might want to wait and see newer chips coming though.

I would go for the E8400: its affordable, its overclockable, and it is 45nm. It really is the way to go, unless you absolutely have to go with a quad.

Hrmm.. Incoming HIJACK:

I need to upgrade from this E4300..

E8400, or Q6600?

I do lots of photoshop, web design etc and I do all of it at the same time. Also I'll minimize all my work work and play like CSS or something.

Worth the Q6600?

E8400 chances are you'll hit 4.0GHz x 2 cores (8 GHz)
Q6600 chances are 3.6GHz x 4 cores (14.4GHz)

Now with more and more games/apps being multithreaded, ask yourself this: How long do you plan to keep your proc before upgrading again?

IMHO, the Q6600 is more future-proof. Even if you only end up using 2 cores most of the time, the difference of 400MHz is minimal to none, especially in gaming.
