well if dual lan is what you need then go for 780i and skip out on the 680i. if you do choose the e8400 then that should be more then enough for gaming,compiling and ocing

I looked, the price is nice, although would it power my system OC'ed with 2-3 8800's ?? I don't like the fact that there are no modular cables...

e7200s haven't been clocking very well, even though the newer e8400s don't clock as well as the older 8400s.
still go e8400

According to corsairs page, a OC'ed quad core, with 3x9800gtx OC'ed and ~4 HDD's, I will need a 1000w ... I guess I will stick with the HX1000W .....

edit: found a ultra 3x 1000w for $202 - shipped ;-)

not that i need it now, but maybe in the future..

the 780i provides Linux support...... (lets just hope that there aren't video corruption problems)...

the grand total so far is about $1017.99

this leaves me with another $130 or so to work with....

so...
it's back to the E7200, E8400, or Q6600

or just go with the E7200 and add another 4gb of ram ;-)

Go with the E7200 @ 2.56. it has the best multi 9.5 and its dirt cheap

recommended Set-Up

CPU = E7200 @ 2.56ghz
GPU = 8800 GTS 512mb XFX x 2
PSU = 750w T/Take
MOBO = ASUS SLI Series
RAM = 2 or 4 gb DDR 2 Gskill or after market
COOLING = Tunqi Tower, T.R.U.E
