GTX280, will it bring the 8800's prices down?

SO will the new, but super expensive cards bring the 8800's down in price? I have been getting a list together for a budget build and the video card was going to be the most expensive part at $150, the Zotac 8800GT 512Mb AMP! edition. This was going to be a summer project and i was planning on getting the parts around June 10th. Does anyone have any clue as to when the new cards will be released, and if there will be any price drops for the 8800's?

based on the info I have read so far, the new cards will be very expensive in the beginning. Only the 9800GTX and cards at that level *might* see a slight price drop, but I don't expect a price drop for cards like the 8800GT (esp. since they sell like hot cakes at the current prices)

Let me know what your budget is and what parts you're thinking about.

Considerint the performance of the 8800GT & GTS I doubt it will drop much
The GT you can find for 179$ now and the GTS is about 229$ and considering the only game that they cant handle is crysis Id say they are going to run there corse for a few more months. At least til more games come that demand the performance and the 280 chips are actually needed..

IMO the 280GTX will be high priced benchmark at first, considering its "rumored" to out perfrom my 2 8800gt's.....

Here are my parts
DFI LANPARTY DK P35-T2RS $129.99

CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX 450W $60

Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 Wolfdale 2.53GHz $131.99
-plan on overclocking around 3.4-3.6Ghz

ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro $26.99
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - OEM $5.99

OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 2GB DDR2 800 (2 x 1GB) $34.99

I was planning on getting this 8800gt
ZOTAC ZT-88TES3P-FCP GeForce 8800 GT 512MB AMP! Edition $154.99
700Mhz core with 2Ghz memory
The best part about this 8800GT is it has audio over HDMI

Also i looked on newegg, which is where im getting everything, and they they dont have many G80's anymore, the cheapest 8800gts on their site is around where the most expensive 512 8800GTs are

I doubt it. The GTX 2xx will be the high end, they will still need the current products to cover the midrange and low end until they release 2xx versions later on.
