The plastic around the component that you're refering to acts as insulation in an effort to help protect against electro-static interference between other components.

Don't alter connections inside PSU's unless you know what you're doing. Most PSU's don't use a the generic 3-pin fan connector to power the fans, and in many cases the wires are actually soldered to the PCB of the PSU itself. Some connecors are also used to enable power to flow between the seperate PCB's inside the PSU.

If you are dead set on installing your own LED's make sure you take great care so as not to disrupt the airflow through the PSU. Overheating components can fail, or in the worst case start a fire.
Thanks for answering my questions.

Eh, the TF2 free weekend thing will help me pass the time waiting for the parts from McMaster...

So... TF2 free weekend is over. Time to get back to this project...
Anyways, I went out and got some 3M painter's tape today. Also, the McMaster package should arrive tomorrow, so that's when I'll start the mod. Tracking still says it's in Chelmsford, and the last time they delivered from Chelmsford, they took 6 hours...

On the bright side, McMaster only charged me ~6USD for the shipping, whereas the UPS site said it would cost ~9USD.

Have any of you used a random orbital sander before? I tried it and it made some ugly marks on the scrap metal I was working on... But it did get it really smooth and such, would you recommend I use that or should I manually sand the metal?

Low-Carbon Steel costs more than Cast Acrylic, what a surprise.

The orbital sander is supposed to leave those marks. Little squiggles, it sands like that. I'd just hand sand it personally. You just want to rough it up for the paint, you're not trying to sand out any imperfections.

Hmm, ok, thanks.
I'll just hand sand the metal then.

scuff it up with some 240 grit, or a scotch brite pad. Mouse sander is overkill for that, although it does make quick work of the job, and is fairly effortless youll still need to get in the nooks and crannies by hand

Thanks for the advice.

Ugh... It's still in Chelmsford, UPS tracking says something called "destination scan". It's probably not going to come today, even though it still says estimated delivery time 6/23/08...

Omg, UPS has some nerve, it's 7PM on 6/23/08 and the product hasn't even been sent out for delivery yet. And yet UPS still says it will arrive today.

Update:

Got the package. Was a surprise because the UPS site didn't say anything about it getting delivered, it just said delivery scan yesterday afternoon, but no complaints. Except that it stayed in a warehouse for 3 days of course...

Package

Hmm, I wonder what's in here...

Steel Sheet

Blue Acrylic

It's covered by a wrapping, but trust me, it's a sheet of 12"x12" blue colored acrylic.

Hole Saw and Arbor

Cost me ~30USD, but I think it's worth it if I'll give me some nice holes. Let's hope for the best.

U-Channel

3 feet of U-Channel. It's pretty big, compared to the U-Channel that you guys get form mnpctech. I have just enough for two 120mm holes. Hope I won't need anymore.

Misc Items

Uhh, lets see. 5 fan grills, 4 case feet (meant for furniture but should work fine for my case), and 200 zipties.

I'm going to start modding tomorrow. It's ~7:30pm here... Pretty late. There's also a thunderstorm that's going on and off.

Thanks.

Ok, I cut some holes in the bottom for the fans, however, my parents took the camera since they were going to my little brother's "Daycare graduation ceremony". My little brother came back, but my parents went to work without dropping the camera off, so no pics yet.
I'll be working on the front in the meantime.
