Believe me, I'm only showing you this build's best side whenever possible.

.. Bloopers is something I should have really expected before I started my mod . I ordered my acrylic assuming every cut I make will be perfect .
Now I am waiting on an other order of acrylic from TAP .
I keep my scrap in a box, its almost full now

Oh heck wastedtime, you're the rack server mod!

I've been meaning to read through your log. I really liked what you did with the front acrylic panel. Don't be shocked if you see something somewhere in this build that's reminiscent of it before this is all said and done.

Amazing so far! So, I'm assuming you're planning on keeping the aluminum bare? I think it would look nice with a thin coat pf black paint.

Yes! The concept of this design is fantastic. I am totally going to copy your excellent design and build one similar to this - subbed.

As for now, the plan is for the structural elements to be bare, or at least natural aluminum. The sanded pieces pick up dirt and fingerprints like crazy, so I may end up clear coating them somehow eventually. The actual side/top/bottom panels however, I do plan on being black inside and out. I'm still mulling over the exact finishing technique I'll use; but I'm thinking the black backdrop of the side panels should set off the aluminum work of the structure nicely.

I have to keep reminding myself that all of this frame work is only going to be selectively visible through tinted case windows 99% of the time.

Heh, thanks! I think you have more confidence in it at the moment than I do lol. As long as we're talking design, however, I made a decision on the way home from work this morning. The other day, I stumbled across Lian Li's new Tyr cases, and got to thinking.

Here's some shots of my desk, to help give some perspective to the ergonomics I'm dealing with:

This shot I was actually sitting in my chair:

The side loading dvd drives ala the Lian Li seem a natural choice to me for this application. I need to rethink my plans for their mounting "cages"; but overall, I'm definitely thinking that's the way I'm going to go.

Thanks again for the feedback everyone. I'm still in a very busy time at work, but it's getting ready to settle down again for me here pretty soon. So, hopefully I'll have some more tangible updates in the nearer future.

Nice, G5 for the win. I alawys like it when people make their stuff clean, or at least correct the mistakes so it's clean in the end. Great work, subbed.
