phenom 9500 won't overclock

Thread Starter
I really want to overclock my phenom 9500 but am having a great deal of trouble doing so. I have read some other posts but have not been able to successfully overclock my computer through the bios. I have however been able to overclock with ntune to 2.485 ghz. when i try to bump up the front side bus and voltages my computer doesn't like it and upon startup says it has reset the frontside bus.

The phenom 9500 is not a black edition and the multiplier is locked. The motherboard is a gigabyte ga-57sli-s4. I'm also running 2 gigs of ddr800 and a single 8800gt.

Does anyone know why the overclocking through the bios is giving me so much trouble? If anyone wants to know my system specs I can post them but just tell me how to get exactly what you want. thanks

I'm not an AMD overclocker, so I'm not quite sure how all that works, but I do have one recommendation. NEVER use ntune. Ntune is an absolutely terrible excuse for oc'ing software. Always use bios.

And now I leave you to be helped by an AMD guy. Good luck with your cpu

It depends on your motherboard. I used to have a phenom 9600+ @ 3ghz

I will be watching this thread. I also own the Phenom 9500 and I can't OC it either.

First off, fill in your system in your profile. It will help others.

I was overclocking my Phenom 9600 on an ASUS M2n SLI Deluxe. I never tried the new 790 boards.

Processor with multi locked are overclocked by raising the reference clock.
So disable coolnquiet. Disable other spread spectrum if any.
Bring down HT multi one step down.
Set your RAM speed one step down
raise Reference clock (well known as FSB)
Save and exit bios

Good luck
