9600gt sli OR hd3870 crossfire ??

hi people!

i'm about to buy a new rig, and i have 1000 doubts about what to buy...

First, if i choose to do a 9600gt sli, i'll have to buy some mobo with at least nvidia 680 chipset, right? But those mobos are quite expensive..

On the other hand, if i choose a 3870 crossfire configuration, i can use some p35 or x38 based mobo, which (i have read) are better chipsets. P35 mobos are really cheap, x38 not so much, they reach 680 mobo's price. Is P35 a good chip for a gaming pc? Or is it "old" nowadays?
Does amd chipsets work better with ati cards? Does it worth to buy a Phenom cpu? (i will buy an e8400 for sure, but i dunno...)

Also, i have to keep in mind that 3870 cards are a bit more expensive than the 9600gt, but the difference is not so important.

In almost all reviews, both cards perform very similar, but i think sli does better than crossfire... don't you? Games does run a bit faster when using sli...

well.. well.. well... as you see, i'm a little lost about my new buy, so i will thank you any advices you give to me.

ps: don't mind about prices in your country, i'm buying my hard in argentina

p35 and x38 are all excellent chipsets, to sli 2 nvidia cards look at the 750 FTW motherboard I'd go Crossfire cause they scale better IMO. they both work the same as if was on a intel vs AMD chipset the 3870 and I'd stick to the E8400 for gaming plus the ati 3870 has HDMI

I'd wait for the 4 series coming out. Should be out in June or early July.

Performance from the cards is acually very similar, 9600GT scales better in Nvidia optimized games like Crysis and such while ati might be better on other stuff. p35 is a pretty awesome chipset, a ton of overclocking potental. you might wanna go 750i for a newer better chipset if you want to SLI.

AMD mobos have more features, if you compare to an similarly priced intel board. So it is cheaper to go amd, phenoms/ a64x2 are kinda under performing so you might wanna stick with intel. amd does have the new 750a and 780a chipsets if you wanna go sli whilst for crossfire you got 790X/790FX chipset.

If you don't mind waiting. ATI and Nvidia are releasing their new videocards in a few weeks. intel is releasing their p45 chipset as well that will replace the p35.

^^yup! thats true!

Go quad Crossfire! 4x3870 and buy a 780a chipset with a Phenom 9500 and 4GiB Ram and a TB HDD plus Water Cooling! It will make a hell of a system but the problem is that u wont have money left to buy food and clothes!

Well jokes apart go with Intel and NVIDIA. Its better and more trustworthy
