Primer!

Straight to the pics!

Picked up an 4-in-1 rounded edge file today and some primer (didn't have a chance to go to the store yesterday ) I got the 'automobile' primer because this will mainly go on the bottom stand and the front bezel (which I have bondo on). The paint I'm getting requires a special primer for itself that stops the rust activator from seeping into the panel itself. So this is just a sealer/coverup for the bondo and a few spots on the case. I will have to go back and recoat everything with the 'special' primer later before the final paint goes on.

Should make quick work of those nasty rear 80mm cut outs

Before

After. (And good gah did that make alot of noise! LOL)

Supplies and whatnots for the bulk of today's work.

Definitely had to sand this. All that 'shiny' needs to be GONE for good primer adhesion.

(Sanding tip) Hold your hand flat and use circular motions. (Think 'wax on' /'wax off' )

Getting there, I still needed to sand around the edges here. I forgot to take a finished pic of the sanding. And I neglected a finished shot of this primed as well lol. Sorry

I use alcohol to clean to the plastic before priming. This makes sure the oil/grease is off.

Wiping it clean!

You can't tell from this pic (the sun made it look white ) but the front panel is primed. I have 2 coats on it now, I already spot a few places that will need some more filling/sanding, but I assumed I would anyway, lol. That floppy drive bondo is excellent, if I do say so myself.

Nice smooth (non existent) floppy bay hole. You can see one of the spots I was referring to in this pic right above the 'e' in the watermark, lol.

A little primer on front panel button. Not sure if I want to keep this button or fill in the hole yet, but for now, it's ready to go just in case I decide to keep it. (I already have the lock switch as power, and a reset beside it, so this is a spare button for now.)

Teaser! Some accessories I found in my garage. These old wheel bearings just looked too "machinery'ish' to pass up,lol. I degreased them with some household cleaner and have been letting them sit outside rusting for a few weeks. The effect is perfect I haven't decided where their final location will be, but I'm thinking of placing them in front of the rear 80mm fans (like a center 'hub') on some kind of acrylic bracket.

That's a wrap for today! Thanks for watching!

Sweeeeeeet!

Wheel bearings!

...serisously, though.

Are they decorative, or are you going to make them functional in some manner as well?

I have that same file, but mine is really old. And yes, it is VERY loud when you use it on metal.

those bearings look great!

For illustrative purposes, are you able to palce them in intended spot and take pics to show us what you plan to do with them?

I'll grab a pic this evening when I get home (about to leave now) but in lamens terms, where the holes are in the back of the case, there will be two 80mm fans. I (plan ) on making a little acrylic grill to go over the fans with the bearings glued to that. This way they will be right in the middle of the fan blades, hovering over. (Maybe that clarifies it )
