Problem starting after bumping up multiplier

Thread Starter
I bumped up my multiplier to 13x and evrything starts well at first, but after I shut down my computer will not post. The fan either starts up at max speed and stays on or spins normally and doesn't post. I tried using AMD overdrive to overclock at first, but it would crash everytime I went above 12.5x multiplier. Am I having hardware trouble or am I doing something wrong (This is my first OC).

This system is the one listed as Build in Progress

My FSB is 200.9. Everything is working now that I set the multiplier back to auto. I was just adjusting the multiplier and nothing else. Is that why my overclock wasn't working? What should I put my Vcore at?

Cyborg, try making changes through the BIOS if your running into problems with AMD Overdrive. Overclocking through the operating system is usually not recommend. Data corruption issues can easily occur if your running a unstable OC in Windows.
Make sure when your upping your HTT (reference clock) that you also pay attention your memory frequency. It will go up above stock speeds. That may also cause stability issues. If your just raising the multiplier then try changing the vcore a bit. Give the 9850BE a bit more and see if that works.

By the way check out the 9850 club thread, I'm sure there is some extremely helpful posts in there

Good luck

Thanks for the link. I have a question. Should CPU-Z be showing my clock speed as half of what it actually is? It shows up as 1252 instead of 2500.

Cyborg, make sure Cool'n'Quiet is disabled in your BIOS. Any other thermal throttling option should also be disabled. Can you post up your CPU-Z validation link for us?

Hope that helps, good luck!

Here it is:

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=366884

Link Fixed. I disabled all my thermal controls and cool N quiet... now it does show the clock it should.

Was Cool N Quiet causing my overclock problem?

Well 13x boots up fine after a shut down now. Thanks a lot! Now I just need to figure out a nice stable OC.

What's a good program to test full load temps during a short burst? I was told OCCT, but it doesn't seem like it wants to run on my rig. Is my OC bad if OCCT crashes within 2-4 secs or does OCCT just not like my system. It gives me a Code 1 error (Don't know what that is).

Damn the problem is back now that I have booted for a third time. The Fan starts at max speed and runs, but the computer won't post. I have no idea what is going on.
