Cyborg, OCCT is usually used for the first 30mins. It's kind of a quick stability test to make sure things are ok. After that I would move onto Orthos. I like to test my overclocks for at least 7-8hrs at Priority 9. I prefer the blend test because it will test both the processor and memory.

If OCCT keeps crashing then that could be a sign of the overclock not being stable.

Cyborg, sounds like your rig doesn't like those OC settings. Try dropping the multiplier and raising the HTT instead. Go with incremental changes of 5 - 10mhz. Have you had a chance to go over any of the OCing guides? Here is one that I commonly suggest others to read over: http://www.overclock.net/amd-general...ocket-am2.html

Hope that helps

I'm going to try to add a bit more voltage and then go the HTT way if that doesn't work. Oddly enough OCCT won't even run when I have nothing overclocked.

*Update*
Tried voltage changes + Multiplier = It works on a warm boot, but fails to even post on a cold boot.
Tried HTT w/o voltage change = It froze while checking the memory, but it did at least post.

One good thing has come out so far though, I figured out my memory was only running at ddr2 800 instead of 1066.

Any other thoughts with this extra info? I was told this board could reach 3 ghz, but it doesn't look like it is going to. I would change the mobo, but it looks like almost all the boards are having trouble getting the 9850 to OC.

Cyborg, did you make sure to put your memory on a divider when you changed the HTT (reference clock)?

Good luck

I got it to 2.69 with 215 x 12.5 multiplier (+.075 volts to the cpu too), but my ddr2 was only set to ddr2 400. I'm kind of confused on timings and also am not sure how much voltage I should add to the cpu.

Set ur RAM to 800 mhz (4x) in the bios and leave the timing to auto. Since u have 2 2GB stick then ur RAM will need a bit extra voltage while OCing

I actually have 2x 2 gig sticks in RMA too. Will I need even more voltage or am I going to hit trouble OCing after adding these?

Seems Gigabyte just added another bios that supports the 9850. My computer will now cold boot with a 13x multiplier! Now I need to figure out how high it will go and what voltage to add.

Even OCCT works now. I bet AMD overdrive will work now too, but the bios is better anyway.

I guess it helps for ocing when your mobo actually supports your CPU.
