Q9770... setup?!? - Page 3

GPU(s): Well GTS > GT, so get 1 or 2 GTS (evga/xfx/bfg, pick one/two).
Mainboard: I'd say a 680i or if you can affort it a 780i mainboard (evga/xfx/dfi).
Memory: Get the fastest DDR2 your willing to pay for (g.skill/corsair) at least 2GB for Vista.
PSU: Depends on what videocard your using (Corsair 750W is always good).
Case: Maybe that Rocketfish (Lian-Li rebrand) if you can find one or anyhing else that holds (e)ATX and has some nice airflow.
HDD: Seagate 7200.11 (or 2 for Raid0).

Did I miss anything?

Oh... Thanks. I like it too.

Anyways, sense it was stolen, you wanna keep it hidden under a good heatsink... and that's the problem.. Mirco ATX boards have a problem with room in all areas... It's a cramped board and to find a heatsink that can effectively cool 136w+ chip..

Funny, that you mention Rocketfish (i actually work for Best Buy... <please save the laughter... whatever pays to get me by school>.. we get great prices on those) btw: those cases are on clearance... $40 i think..., but If I have to i'll stick with my Lian-Li case

now when I was researching back then for cards... i remember 640mb>320mb... but now it's 512mb> owns all? am i corret?

As far as a board, you are recommending Nforce boards, any reason other than the intel X38/X48 boards? I have a hard time overclocking those boards.

I will be going 4gb g.skill now, (then 8gb when I have cash to burn for fun later)

PSU... something modular.. no clue yet

HDD, raptor hdd or the SSD hdd (friend can get those for fairly inexpensive)

I've always loved the thermalright heatsinks, but FYI, if I do build a mid/large tower system, i will go water cooled, (but budget kills it...) I was hoping to use a small cooler... maybe even stock on it. I've been researching for nearly a week 1/2 already and am still running in circles.

Well 680mb is better then 320, but that was on the old G80 chips, the new ones (G92) only come with a 512mb variant (and G92 is way better then G80).

I'm recommending nVidia because you were set on a nvidia videocard. And if you have a nvidia chipset you can upgrade with a second videocard for SLI in the future. There is nothing wrong with X38/X48 tho, if you don't want to SLI.

Raptors are very loud (trust me I got them) and aren't that much faster then the 7200.11 and only beat them with seak times.

For the PSU I still need to know your GPU(s)

EDIT: And I'm not laughing

If i do go with the 512MB (G92) GTS, then I'll need a PSU prolly around... 500W. I'm only going to run single. (SLI was never really needed since i'll never go to a high resolution or a big screen) But if you think the nvidia chipset is good and others agree, I will take your word for it and try it out

EDIT: any other recommendations? If you all sway away from the SFF micro ATX board, then I will... I'll just have to wait to make more money... which on the flip side will mean a longer wait time and potentially mean the other new processor coming out will be closer!

I agree with the suggestions above. Your CPU is worth over twice the price of all your other parts combined...

Well if you only run low resolutions and are not gonna upgrade to a bigger monitor + second card for SLI purposes in the future; ATI + Intel boards might work just as well (X38/X48 like you said). I don't have much experience with ATI's videocards, but I'm sure someone here can suggest you a good ATI card in that case.

That shouldn't be the concerning factor, I'm mainly concerned of bottlenecking. If there is a significance in loss of performance, then of course I will have to reconsider! I want to know if it's "ok" or if what I'm thinking is pure craziness! Thanks!
