Well as i see it, this is just one way in which they can begin to incorporate CUDA into real-life programs.
The more the better, if we can get lots more applications to run with hundreds of more threads, in a parallel manner on gpu's than we can unlock a lot of potential that we have not yet learned to tap.

Did not nvidia release the cuda stuff to ati?

im sure i read that they had to make it equal playing feild for the physics n such

They are keeping Ageia physx open for AMD/ATI to use in the GPUs.(I think) The CUDA SDK is free so Nvidia is trying to make profit off of hardware sells of its graphic cards so it wouldn't make sense for them to give AMD permission to integrate CUDA in their graphic cards.
