2665 Drama - Page 2

i agree that it should just be about the cause, but the point system brings in competition and if that brings more folders then im down, i did fold anonymous for a little bit, but stumbled upon the team competition here and decided to give it a go.
needless to say i got hooked, but still dont really care for the points, i check every day or two to make sure that its still up and running for the sake of not dragging my team down.
but that all aside, i think stanford should fix how many points the WU is worth, it will
a) stop people from complaining about it
b) stop people from just canceling the WU
c) keep the competitions a little more balanced

Wow, how refreshing the attitude is on this forum!!! People in anot[h]er forum wanted me demod'd for defending Stanford on this topic. They even made online petition.

Yes, Stanford released this project sadly undervalued (almost 1/2 wasn't far from the truth). Unfortunately, Stanford couldn't share the reasoning behind it at that moment. Still can't say much more than wait for the A2 fahcore to come out of beta testing. It peforms a "little" better than A1.

But since then, Stanford has upped the points from 1270 to ~1900 on p2665. It still underperformances just slightly, but much better than before. Still uses a ton of memory, and a huge 20+ MB upload, but one WU is just as good as another.

With the great attitude found here, I'll be certain to keep coming back to help when I can.

Thanks

It's always good to have open discussions about these kinds of things. The threat of demotion you had on your forum is ridiculous imo. I mean, just for voicing your opinion people wanted you gone?

Oh well.. we'll keep on folding, and time will tell us why Stanford made the decision they did.

I couldn't agree more. I believe the purpose of this forum(and forums in general) is to gain knowledge, help fellow members, and discuss topics. Its only when you hear different opinions that you can truely understand the topic as a whole, not just one sided.

Points matter a great deal to me, if there weren't points then I'd feel as if I wasn't making any progress and probably just give up...although I did give up my folding in Linux at night and in Vista in the day because I heard that passing the preferred deadline hurts the cause. I don't know if I've had any of these WU's yet as I've been out of town for almost 3 weeks...but I'm not too concerned about it...as long as its still folding and racking up points, I'll be happy, but I'm also not about to purposely pass the preferred deadlines for more points either.

Folding Forum Mod
Hey! I think you helped me out months ago on Folding Forum when I was getting started on SMP.

[/random]

I've gotten a lot of WUs that take a long time, but little point value, but I've NEVER canceled a WU just because I didn't like the point value. Stanford needed that WU done when they put it out, who am I to say "No, I want to do one that is lower priority, but has more points"? I think Karma will get to everyone eventually, and those who are complaining about the points/cancel ling will get a bunch of 36 hours WUs and gain 500 ppd.

IMHO points are indeed a good incentive to create some friendly competition and spur people to fold, HOWEVER, they are not the end all be all of folding. If Stanford wants to undervalue some WUs when compared to others, so be it. We all have the same odds of pulling those low point WUs if our hardware performs similarly on the same client. It puts no one at any true disadvantage, other than perhaps Stanford who does not get all the data ASAP because a few people are going to reject that one WU.

I put a lot of money and time into my hardware and getting it to run fast and stable, but I did it for ME AND ONLY ME. I have always built beefy systems in the past to run heavy workloads for my own purpouses, even before I started folding. Stanford just happens to benefit from my technophilia. I fold for Science, not points. Just my
