Well, I would frame it this way, piracy is wrong, I do not beleive however that p2p sharing is automatically piracy. Semantics I know, but there is a difference.

I see what you mean, but I still don't think that Dling the occasional game is wrong, and neither does my friend who works for Ubisoft

I don't really understand were you are coming from?

How can anyone protecting the law have an 'holier than thou' attitude.

It is the pirates that have that attitude because they think it is ok to steal.

D'ling the occasional game is wrong. Just as it is to occasionally kill someone or ocassionally go over the speed limit. It is breaking the law, and will be punishable if caught. How can that be classed as ok?

And your friend should tell that to his bosses if he thinks it is ok to steal on of their games. Seriously, if he thinks it is ok i dare him to tell the bosses. I mean if it is ok then surely they would agree, would they not?

I'm not trying to provoke an argument. Just merely putting my opinion across.

No one should be doing it, but remember the pirates and the public were doing it way before the IRAA were. So we really don't have any grounds to criticize. They are merely playing them at their own game. Is it wrong? Yes, but then that decision wouldn't have to be made if we never stole in the first place.

I never understood the whole 'in moderation' argument either. It is evident that no one is doing it in moderation and it never will be. It is simply to easy to do and we get greedy, throw us an inch and we will take a mile.

The only way is to abolish it.

Everyone, at some time in their lives has broken the law, and most people I think have done a lot worse than dling a game. Also, if you are trying to tell me you never go over the speed limit YOU ARE LYING.
My friend has actually mentioned the subject to his boss, and he said that piracy sites can be a great way to spread the game, for example, if someone dls a game and likes it then they will probably buy it and also tell their friends. Demos recently are so crap that I think dling a game is the only way to see if its any good.
Appreciate other people's opinions though.

I can agree with maybe downloading the singleplayer part of a game, then buying it if you like it to get multiplayer... The only problem with that is some developers (valve) thrive off their singleplayer experience.

Occasional theft is still theft.

"Holier-than-thou attitude"? What, for defending and obeying the law?

It's quite ironic when someone makes personal justifications of theft that trump the law (in their mind), and then accuse others of being 'holier-than-thou' when they don't go along with it. The arrogance is astounding.

Using that logic, it's OK to steal some gold from the jewelry store... as long as I leave the cash for some of it. Give me a break.

Other people braking the law (including others who speed) is not a valid excuse for you to steal.

My opinion is you seem to repeatedly attempt to justify theft. Maybe you're still just having problems convincing yourself it's OK.

I'll use a different analogy for certain other 'arrogant' people to understand.
I live in a sparsely populated part of the UK, and on the roads around it I have driven my Jaguar XJ6 at over 100 MPH on clear, open roads SAFELY. My friend however(the same one that works at Ubisoft) drives fast in the cities and has had 4 accidents to date. I am doing no-body harm by dling the occaseional game. I am actually supporting the developors by dling the game, buying it (or not if it's rubbish) and spreading the word - if downloads didn't exist I wouldn't pay £40 for a game, I'd just forget about it.
The develpoers seem to agree with me, and that's all I care about.
Also, the person accusing me of being 'arrogant' is incidentay the only person being rude.

There's a difference between breaking the law and supporting it.

Yes i have broke the speed limit before. I will openly admit it. But were i differ from most others is that i don't preach that it is ok to do. And i certainly don't triumph and celebrate when the law fails to catch law breakers.

I openly admit it when i break the law, i would never try and persuade myself it is OK to do.

And going over 100mph is an instant ban on a motorway and it is even less in other speed zones. No matter were you are, 100mph is dangerous. Just ask Cyberdruid what would have happened to him if he was going 100mph when he was in an accident.

Just because it has a dense population it doesn't mean nothing will happen. If if int he circumstance that something does happen, the victim certainly won't survive.

I also don't agree with your philosophy that because you would never buy the game it is ok to steal it. I would never buy a BMW, is it ok to just go and steal one? Well scrap that because i most probably would buy a BMW, but you get my point

Can i also ask what your links are within the gaming industry. All of your sources seem to fully support piracy. This seems very strange considering most companies are against it. Especially when you said Ubisoft bosses were perfectly fine with the theft of their material.

What I mean is that downloads are a great way of seeing what a game is really like, and also useful for other reasons.
For example, one of my friends has kids aged 7 and 9. When the family comes to my place, the first thing the kids want to do is play on my PCs. Obviously, it wouldn't be appropriate to let them play GOW, so I have a few racing games dled that I would never play for them to have fun. They are used for about 1 hour a month, which i am not going to pay £40 for. It is perfectly fair to dl something if you are not going to use it much or are trying it out. If I was you I would go to the BMW dealership and take a test drive.
