Super Talent Technology is a somewhat older US based technology company that is most familiar to enthusiasts because of their production and marketing of high performance memory modules and flash based solutions. However, like some other notable companies that produce high performance memory modules, Super Talent has also begun branding some products beyond their traditional scope including what we are interested in today, power supplies. These first examples are in the Atomic Juice line and range from 600w to 700w with today’s example being the Atomic Juice PS-700. While Super Talent is a US based manufacturer and does provide OEM services in their most experienced field of memory, their current power supplies are sourced from the ever popular Chinese/Taiwanese based FSP.

FSP Group is one of the few actual power supply manufacturers and can be found providing OEM services for a number of other brands FSP at various times including OCZ, Zalman, AOpen, Antec, and many more including today’s review of Super Talent. This wide distribution of power supplies by FSP is not surprising given that they have been in business since 1993 and are one of the top 10 producers of power supplies (currently ranked 6th) coupled with being widely regarded as a manufacturer of basic “workhorse†power supplies that just get the job done, though some of their more recent high powered members of certain platforms have been plagued by power quality issues.

The Bottom Line

Freshman outings are often fraught with good and bad points, and the Atomic Juice PS-700 was certainly no exception as this particular unit offered a lot of good points while being handicapped by a couple of nagging issues. In all of our testing metrics the Atomic Juice PS-700 was a very good power supply through its first 75% of its DC output capacity as it boasted good voltage regulation, efficiency, and acceptable DC output quality. However, once the unit was pushed past 75% the voltage regulation, DC output quality, and exhaust temperature deteriorated to a certain degree with the final issue being the unit’s inability to finish the 80% load Torture Test after three attempts. If Super Talent can work with FSP on these issues that occur in the unit’s upper 25% of its DC output range they will have a good mid range 700w power supply on their hands, but right now this unit needs a bit more work before it is a $100 winner.
