But what microsoft really needs to think is, why would he buy 7 upgrade licenses for one computer?
Well, if he's an IT director for a University, he'd obviously have a Microsoft Alliance or MSDN account with all the information he'd be privy to in having such accounts. I'm sure they can synonymate the two, or something of the sort.

At any rate, if the site was down, you shouldn't try more than once as it is. That, or check with your bank in seeing whether or not transactions have taken place.

Idiotly stupid on the so called "IT Manager"'s part, and Microsofts part. Unless they're going to send him seven copies of Vista to him; in which case it was all the guys fault.
ROFL, I have a feeling that if this gets any bigger Microsoft will refund him the 6 extra vista he bought and give me a little more for his inconvenience since thats how all major companies are, especially when the news get pretty big.

But he didn't get confirmation of the transaction. He was told it didn't go through because it was off line. I can see how he was stupid for doing this 7 times, but in rights he didn't pay for 7 copies. He payed for one and got told the rest failed.

Besides, isn't anything refundable within 30 days of purchase if un-opened? Even if they deny him a refund, couldn't he go to Trading Standards and get them to sort it out for him.

exactly why this is bad business for microsoft, because it is their fault, not this bill guy's.

Classic example of a moron entering their payment info too many times on a website experiencing issues. Call the CC company and refute 6 of the charges. End of story. This is sensationalism at it's worst...
