The 900's are noisy compared to a lot of other cases--at first, it bothered me (had it sitting on my desk, next to where I sit)--I simply moved it to the floor under my desk, and I barely notice it now. It is noisier. If you want it quiet, swap out the front grilles to something solid (and use just a few vents on the bottom of the front of the case), patch the side-grille with something solid, and don't use the top exhaust fan. But TBH, that pretty much negates the whole point of having a 900. But I totally understand how it seems very loud. IMO, all fans on low is pretty quiet. Are you sure it's not your PSU that's loud--that's almost always where most of the noise comes from on a lot of systems.

I've had a Nine Hundred a while and the noise of the stock fans bothered me, to cut down on the noise, this is what I went through:
  • Turned the 200mm fan down to low
  • Replaced all bar the 200mm stock fan with 120mm Hiper Chrome fans (very quiet, blue and shiny , they're controller by my motherboard and set to silent mode)
  • Replaced the GPU fan with an Arctic cooling Accelero Extreme 8800
  • Took out all the drive cages
  • Added Scythe Stabilizer IIs for three hard drives
  • Added washers to the screws on the DVD drive
  • Added a further 120mm Hiper Chrome fan on the side
  • Switched the CPU fan down to "Silent" mode
  • Replaced the PSU rubber pads on the bottom of the case with four pieces of those silicon fan mount things - I just cut it up and put the corners where the old rubber spacers were and it dampened the noise slightly

All in all, it's a bit of work, but it made a massive difference. Noise absorbing material doesn't seem to do much at the best of times, it's only good for muffling sound rather than actually removing it, it makes hard drive clicks less noticable and dampens the whine of high speed fans but doesn't do much else.

Does it matter? Turning the case fans on low? Extra fan = extra noise period. I believe a case shouldn't have more than 3 fans, period. Having too many fans is redundant, that's why my Lian-Li PC-A20 will be my case of choice for months to come.

The side fan in my machine is absolutely essential to maintain my current overclock, without it, my northbridge runs at a scolding 56 degrees C, with it, 44. So it's not really redundant, and the Hiper fans I'm using are all running at ~800RPM, set by the motherboard to raise if the case temperature ever goes too high, but it doesn't.

The bottom case fan inlet cools the hard drives, the top one feeds the CPU fan, the rear one exhausts heat from the CPU fan (which blows directly into it) and the top fan vents any additional air that the other two fans are blowing into the case. It's a very efficient system and everyone who's seen it comments on how quiet it is.

I agree that extra fans for the sake of using up the places to put them in the case is pointless, but Antec really put a lot of good design into the Nine Hundred and I've taken advantage of that, the airflow is amazing.

The Nine Hundred? Well, the stock fan at the back and on the top are set up to blow out when you open the box, the ones on the front take air in.

If that's true Apple Desktops should be overheating right? Why aren't they? Because the designer of the case made it so it has good airflow. All that matters in a case is airflow and anything that interrupts it or goes against the flow is not good.

In addition what you said about the bottom fan doesn't make any sense, if the bottom fan is blowing air INTO the case then aren't the hdd the and fan parallel to each other? How are the other hdd's being cooled then? Common sense knows that a fan has to be perpendicular to the hdd's for them to be cooled or else only 1 hdd is cooled.

That's why I said a case should not have more than 3 fans: 1x front, 1x rear, 1x either on top or on the side panel and that's why my new Lian-Li PC-A20 is going to kick ass because it has the ultimate airflow I've been talking about for years.

I has one huge 14cm fan in front, 1x 12cm exhaust, 1x "b-pillar" 12cm blowing at the northbridge and RAM but that fan is blowing with the airflow and not blowing directly onto the northbridge and RAM like side panel fans do (check out my A20 thread for a better idea). There is also a optional 12cm VGA exhaust fan that can be installed to exhaust hot air from single/dual video cards AND another optional 12cm fan that goes between the hdd and PSU to push air out faster on the bottom chamber.

This case has extremely good airflow because air is directly going into the case and out the back. Nothing on the side, top or bottom to interrupt the airflow like the Antec case. Amen

Can't hear mine. It sits on the floor next to my desk and sometimes I don't even notice it's on. I have the top fan set at med and all others on low. I actually hear my raptor over all the fans when it seeks heavily.
