5.25'' Drive bay fan converter.

Thread Starter
I'm looking for something to help me convert 3 drive bays of a rocketfish to house a 120mm fan, preferably with mesh or something on the outside. The only ones I have found also convert the pay into 3 3.5'' hard drive bays, but I dont want these because they will hinder the airflow, which I do not want to happen. Any help?

I don't know if you've seen this, but the scythe kama bay (in black of course) seems like it would surely fit your needs.

Just stick a 120mm fan in there using zip-ties. I have two in the drive area, both zipped tight. Makes less sound and you could use your own filter. The kama mesh is horrible, it doesnt stop dust yet hinders airflow.

That's exactly it, only thing is you'll need a higher CFM fan to pull through its filter. +1 vote for this

The filter is blah, and you have to replace the fan....why buy it? Only if you don't want to touch zippies or save money...I guess you could always buy it to learn a lesson? You could always pass it to a friend. If you find one for really cheap (under the price of a good fan) then go for it. No pat on the back, though.

I already have a Scythe slipstream fan to use, and I'm gonna remove the filter probably. I could use zipties but I want some sort of mesh cover on the front. I'll think about it

Ive got a Kama bay in my RocketFish. Get the cheaper white version, and then use some leftover black paint to get it looking right. Thats what I did. Im running a 1900RPM slipstream without the filter in mine too.

I agree with Adrienspawn on this one. It's easy to do and you will feel more accomplished. You will probably not be satisfied with the fan that comes with the Kama bay.

Here is a pic for proof of what I did, took me all of 10 minutes....

I do have the mesh that came with my case (not in pic), it just attaches over the fan into the clips on the sides as before (mounting the S-Flex F fan & foam did not affect this so case front still looks the same).

Oh, and use any packaging foam as I did to tidy up around the fan for airflow. Modding is funner than retail I say.

Enjoy!

WHOA. Awesome idea to add the black padding around the fan as an aesthetically pleasing and easy way to keep it in there. That never even crossed my mind.

I've got the kama bay and I'm happy with it, sure it came with a fan I didn't want, but it looks much nicer, and I took out the filter (it's mucho restrictive).
