Who reads books, seriously?

I have found that any MMO is fun for the first couple weeks. It's when people reach "end game" and either re-role or do the end game content that the game's staying power comes out. That's why WoW has been successful, even though I don't like it.

seems like there is more negative reactions to it here at OCN, at least so far in this thread. I have a few friends playing and they like it. I hear the graphics are good!

I wish someone would come along and make a sand-box style skill based game like the SWG of old, that I would play, mix in some hot graphics and I would play it everyday.

We're just negative by nature. It's what we do

end-game is the biggest problem with MMO's out right now. let's look at WoW's end-game: Boss raiding for ...... items? Arena pvp for ....... items? Items for....... more items? KOOL!

Now, AoC has been promising some sort of siege warfare guild city something something. But what exactly is the point of a guild city in an instanced zone full of other guild cities? status symbol? increase the size of your e-peen?

Let's look at a MMO with good end-game content: Lineage I/II

Spread across the world of the Lineages were castles. These castles controlled cities/towns/villages where players would do commerce, trade, etc... These castles could be sieged by guilds and alliances (groups of guilds) and taken over. The guildmaster of a guild that controlled a castle could set the tax rate of the city/town/village that the castle controlled and earn money through that, this is what drove the world pvp in Lineage.

There were bitter rivalries in that game. Sieges would happen once a week per castle, and last about 1-2 hours (usually on weekends), with giant battles of hundreds of players trying to get their guildmaster control of a castle.

Lineage's downfall unfortunately is the huge grind (not even a quest-grind mind you, but just killing mobs over and over for exp for HOURS) But guess what? People did it..... why? For the end-game gameplay.

Oh, I get it. You're so down on AoC because you're a Lineage fanboi. Makes perfect sense now. I was confused by your comments until this post. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Much like a hot ass blonde chick with no intellegence or social skills (not trying to be sexist here, some men lack those qualities as well), once you've hit it, you want to move on to something with more substance and long-term gains especially in an MMO where you pay on a monthly bases.

I've been (and still am) in the closed beta for almost a month now. the closed beta client remains a newer build than the release. Level 39 Dark Templar.

If you don't like RTSs then this doesn't apply to you. A game like starcraft where the CD prompts you to install DirectX 5 is still being played today by hundreds of thousands of people tells you something about gameplay versus graphics. (where AoC leans more towards the graphics aspect, neglecting no revolutionary gameplay aspects which i, personally, was hoping for)
Ah I see, I was assuming you were one of those who have not played but have rudely judged my apologies.

By the way I do like starcraft I was just trying to make a point, it seemed like you were saying the game is no good, simply because the combat style doesn't appeal to you.

i'm a lineage fanboi? I was simply stating what makes that series successful and what brings it down.

I haven't played lineage in 5+ years. Please, call me a fanboi like i have ****ing lineage posters all over my room.

Come back after level 30 and let me know how much fun your having in Age of Crapola.
