A different cooler will help Tuniq Tower or TRUE are the ones I would recommend

.. 78 Degrees? I'm surprised it hasn't melted something around it yet.

I just did my first lap on my Q6600 today spent about an hour and half and my temps went up about 4 degrees.

I used weird grits though, and I guess I didn't do enough. I will have to do it over. I bought 60 grit, 100 grit and 220 grit. (it was alll canadian tire had --- not like 400, 800, `1200 etc)

What it probably means is that your HS is now convex or concave. Lap the heatsink as well.

Hey Thawny, you need to lap a lot more.......and try get down to 2000 - 2500 grit. Below is how I lapped my Q6600. It took me almost the whole day but the results were well worth it.....

How did you know when to change grits?

Did you use a Sharpie Black Marker?

I used this guide: http://www.overclock.net/other-cooli...-heatsink.html

but obviously I bought the wrong grits and and I didn't spend enough time doing it. I will buy the proper grits tomorrow.

At least it is down to the copper now.
