Age of Conan - Worth Getting?

Alright, I know Age of Conan threads have been pretty prominent lately...but there are a few questions I want to ask in an attempt to see if I want to spend the money for the game.

1. Is the combat system really THAT unique? From what I saw in the video they put out...it looks about as involved as a traditional MMO system....just slightly different. Is the combat system more of a nuisance or a breath of fresh air?

2. Is night time play always single player only? I am a person who likes to play MMO's into the wee hours of the morning at times...but not if I have to do it alone. Is the single player at night optional or totally forced?

3. How does the day/night system work? Is it more or less real time (as in WoW) or does it go through cycles through out the day (ala SWG with 1hr day 1hr night)

4. Are the cities considered safe zones in PVP servers? I don't mind being at risk when being out of a city, it's some neat realism, but I don't want to be ganked inside a city even.

5. How is the item system? Is it like WoW where you have to "raid" for endless hours to get the top gear, or is it more dependent on player made stuff.

6. Would you recommend this game? I liked WoW and have played on and off for about 2 years...but it's just too much of the same old same old at this point, I want something new and fun.

Thanks for any input guys.

me and my friend OptionB will be starting out together friday. I know my brother is lvl 66 already and has slept about 4 hours since the early access. I personally am sick and tired of EQ2 and Tabula Rasa (until vehicles come out..). I play Planet Side (love it) and farm to make money in eq2. But I really am wanting to play somthing to get into like I did with eq2 raiding, and WoW raiding.

If all else false I plan on playing this until Star Gate Worlds and Aion. I know once those are released I will be quitting all to just play those two until they unplug the servers!

1. not that new... its no breath of fresh air, and it is a nuisense until you get used to it... it adds a little to the game, but fatalities... well those just F*&@&%( rock... hhahaha (so theres your breath)

2. you have it wrong >< its NIGHT in game, night = singleplayer... its not live night/day swap, its daytime at 4am...

3. see above ^ (you chose when you want the night to come, AKA singleplayer)

4. yes, safezones are in cities and inside their boundaries... where some MOBS are, but you will have to go in "hotzones" for better mobs.

5. haven't got that far, sorry =(

6. Yes, I would, but don't get mad at it yet, it is bugged (not as bad as WoW's release) and it takes some time to get used to.

Cheers,
Me.

Well I have played up to about level 13 and I can say that it is a little bit of something new. It reminds me of neverwinter nights 2 meets WoW... The combat is a little bit more engaging, I feel the difference of having to take an active roll in combat, meaning push a button for every individual swing. It makes it a little bit less mindless. The graphics are cool so far, although it takes a nice system to run it decently, you wont have fun if you are running a 7 series geforce. The night system is totally optional as far as I can tell, you have to ask an NPC to send you into night mode, there are different quests that you are required to complete in night mode. I think that night mode moves the initial story line along, and the day time stuff is just like extras at first. I'm not sure what happens later on, but I can't imagine everything the story line progressing entirely in single player mode, why wouldn't they have just made it a single player game then?

I've had very little PVP experience so far but I think it will be very fun if PVP is your thing. Overall the combat is faster paced than what I've experienced in WoW, almost making you sit on the edge of your seat at times.

All in all, I'm excited to see how the game progress, I'm very curious to see how it improves over time. If you are interested in MMO's in all, I'd say this is definitely worth checking out.

Thanks for the input so far guys...

And let me make sure I've got this straight. It's daytime ALWAYS in the main MMO portion of the game? And you choose to go to night mode which is single player?

both are necessary components of the game though, you'll have to spend time in both as far as I can tell... no one part is a "main part" they are mutual to the game it seems.

It's kinda a misnomer how they did that. There are 2 modes.

Day mode: Is normal multiplayer mode. There is day and night depending on the in game time. I think every hour is a full game day.

Night mode: Is single player, basically like an instance, where you do some specific quests. I have only seen night mode in Tortage, the beginning city, but it plays out like a normal RPG in this mode. You talk to certain NPCs and they give you the option to go into Night mode. You can switch between them at will.

Just to add clarification on day/night:
Once you leave the starting town and move to the "homeland" the day night cycles as it does in other MMOs.

Combat system:
I find it just ok, but it does make me pay attention more. The thing that is hard to get used to, is lining up mobs when you get more than one so that you hit them both at the same time (melee only).
I am enjoying the game so far...22 ranger and 20 guardian.

Im finding the game quite good a totally different change from WOW.

The graphics are really nice and gameplay is good and probably will get better over time.
