Considering new processor--looking for advice please - Page 2

As others have mentioned, you may want to go with 64-bit Vista or get less RAM since 32-bit Vista will only be able to take advantage of 3GB out of the 4GB.

If you're going to get 2GB, go for this stuff: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231144
If you still want 4GB, get this pair: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231166

As far as your question goes with folding and all that you can dedicate 2 cores for that and have the others for gaming and whatnot. However, I do believe that you will still get better performance with an OC'd E8400. I have mine OC'd to 3.8 till my new HSF arrives then ill go up to 4.0+ and I can play all my games with folding going in theb ackground just fine...

Depends on your budget.

E8400 & Q6600 are around the same price

E8400 will achieve over 4ghz on air
Q6600 will achieve over 3.6ghz on air

But if you want a cheap solution so you have for cash to spend on your RAM

Then go for a E7200 will achieve 4ghz on air the max boot clock on air is 4.3ghz. I love my cheap E7200 because i was going to get a E8400 but people where saying why not a E7200 or wait for the E7300 which will have 10 multi.

I want to fold 24/7 and still be able to use it to game 40+ hours a week and surf the net and listen to music, etc.

Your current card still has plenty of life in it.
Actually I'm thinking of getting a GeForce 9800GTX to replace my 8800GTS 640MB. Basically I'll have most of a system (minus a few key components) left over from my old one that some day will get resurrected into a working one, and I'll have my new one. I'm changing out the RAM, mobo, GPU, CPU, hard drive, case.

Eventually I'll go up to 8GB of RAM and switch up to 64-bit Vista, but for now I'm going to see how 4GB performs with Vista 32-bit.
