How can I force resolution?

For some reason when I play Age of Conan it doesn't let me choose any resolution lower then 1024x768. My native resolution of my laptop is 1280x800. My laptop uses a radeon mobile x1270. Is their anyway to force it to a lower resolution like 800x600 so that I can at least play the game. When i play at 1024x768 i get like 6fps. I'd love to be able to play this until i build my new rig.

So if their is any way or program to force it to use 800x600 that be great!

Is their any hope?! Thanks.

Well going from 1024x768 to 800x600 isn't going to get you much at all. I'd say 5fps improvement at best. Especially with Age Of Conan. You could try searching through all of the config files in the installation folder and see if there is any mention of resolution.

I know, for example you can add this little tidbit to the launch path of BF2 and it will run in widescreen at the rez you pick:

"D:\\Program Files\\EA\\Battlefield 2\\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

Maybe you can rework that to force AoC to the resolution you want. Though Im not sure what you would replace the widescreen with, hope this gets you on the right path.

that's because every game engine is different. the resolution code for the bf2 engine isn't going to do anything for the age of conan engine. look around your my documents folder and the AoC install folder for the .cfg or .ini files. check the code and ctrl+f for the resolution. it may not find anything, but it's a good start.

It's not gonna do anything, really. The game will still run at 1024 but will be downscaled with no increases in performance...

Maybe there's a way to change it from windows' registry kinda like you can do with Warcraft3... Check around google on how to force 1680x1050 in W3 and follow the instructions and apply them to your AoC folder.

3. How to run Age of Conan at a custom resolution

You can use resolutions not defined by the game, however they are unsupported so may not work perfectly if at all. But you can at least try.

Here is Age of Conan at 800x800 - http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/3664/capture1ly9.jpg

To do it, do the following

Quote:
You need show Hidden Files/Folders on. To set it on,
Go to Control Panel - Folder Options - View - Show Hidden Files

1. Next Navigate to

VISTA (C:\\Users\\"USERNAME"\\AppData\\Local\\Funcom\\Co nan\\Pr efs)

XP (C:\\Documents and Settings\\"USERNAME"\\Local Settings\\Application Data\\Funcom\\Conan\\Prefs)

2. Open Pref_1.xml with notepad

3. Find the line <Value name="DisplayResolution" value="IPoint(800,800)" />

4. Change the values to what you want, i.e for 1920 x 1080

<Value name="DisplayResolution" value="IPoint(1920,1080)" />

5. Save the file, close notepad and load the game.
