Cool, should be fun. My 9300 is nice and stable at 3.0ghz, so I am assuming her 7200 at 3.0 will come close in some apps. I think I am going to leave the stock cooling on the e7200 until I get comfortable with the asus board and bios. What's the max on stock with 7200? around 3.25-3.4?

If you are using Intel Stock Heatsink & Fan i would only do a slight overclock between 2.7 and 3.0GHz.

When you get an after market cool you'll be able to achieve speed of 3.6 or 3.8 and if you lucky 4.0GHz (people have problems booting into windows with 4.0GHz)

Q9300 is a good overclocker with its low 3MiB x2 L2 Cache only thing it lacks is the low multi.

Has anyone tried using the 1333fsb BSEL mod then overclock on top of that? I heard (on the conroes at least) it losens the strap and allows for higher fsb. I'm waiting to see if the July 20th price drop and the release of the E7300 (10x multi) is real or not. I was just to build a E7200 dual core for a friend, but I'm thinking of building a E7300 for myself if I can get 4+ghz out of it. Has anyone hit an FSB wall with the E7200 yet? Do you think the extra .5x multi of the E7300 will help? Thanks.

Yes the .5 Multi will help tonnes. People say the 9.5 Multi causes problem and they have to lower it to 9

The E7300 will be cool but i would get you mate a E5200 (800FSB) 12.5 Multi. The E5200 will achieve 4+GHz at 1333FSB (333.3 x 12.5) now thats awesome. only down fall it has 2MiB L2 cache
post #35 of 323
I think my thermal paste has probably run its setup time on the e7200. All the CPU coolers are sold out right now at shop since it's getting hot outside and people are concerned. Sticking with stock for now, and going to give it a slight boost starting today. I'm aiming for a nice 3.0. I am guessing 333mhz FSB and lowering multiplier to 9 will do the trick?

stable @ 3.0 ish. 316 x 9.5. No voltage modification whatsoever. Idle temps increased by only 1 degree celsius. Now I am kinda choked because even with a Zalman 9700 on my q9300 oc'd to 3.0 I am getting idle temps of about 45 degrees celsius for each core. ***!

Yeah, a careful review of my last few posts would clue you in to the fact that my system is a q9300, but I built my wife a system with an e7200, which was what I was talking about. Cheers.

Just picked up mine on Friday and haven't had a lot of time to play with it. My flaky NB seems to be acting up again (and overheating to boot...). My problem seems to lie with VTT but as of yet haven't found a solution. I'm stable at 4.1ghz and can play CS:S at 4.2ghz but it fails Prime.
