First Build, Suggestions Please?

Thread Starter
Ok, been researching for several weeks now trying to figure out just what all I was going to get to build my new computer, and I think I finally have it down. Still hammering out a few of the smaller details, but if anyone has any comments or suggestions, please feel free to throw them out there. This will be my first true build from scratch (usually just buy a barebone and add on to it), and it will be my first time to OC, so any help would be welcome. Parts are as follows:

Case - Rebadged Lian-Li Full Tower (no link) - $49.99 (Received)
Mobo - eVGA 750i FTW - $189.99 (Received)
Proc - Core 2 Quad Q6600 - $199.99 (Received)
Memory - G.Skill 2x2GB PC28000 - $79.99 (Received)
Video - 2x XFX 8800 GTS Alpha Dog - $330.00 (Received)
Heatsink - Xigmatek S1283 - $37 (Received)
PSU - Corsair 750TX - $119.99 (Received)
HD - 2x Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 - $190 (Received)
Case Mod - Dual 120mm Window Kit - $11.95 (Received)

Ok, I think that's it. I know I need some more case fans and some thermal paste, but unsure what to get there. And any advice on thermal paste? And what's the best place to pick up some case fans? And should I get a controller for them? So if anyone else has any other comments or suggestions, please let me know. I should be purchasing everything this week.

I assume the case is the rocketfish, which is awesome.

I'd only make two changes - get a TRUE for your heatsink, and get 2x WD6400AAKS for your hard drives.

The stuff you are are looking for can be found on newegg.com. And you can try going without a controller if you want, but I would use one anyway if you want to quiet it down while not gaming. The Sunbeam Rheobus is your best choice.

Thanks, but I guess I should update on what's already been purchased. I've already ordered a few things, so I can't change them... I'll update OP.

Ok, updated post again. All that's left to order is proc, mobo, and small things like case fans, then I should be able to start building. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Nice build! Similar to the one I'm putting together this weekend. Microcenter does have the best prices on the Q6600, but I've heard that not everyone is getting G0 step versions. I just bough mine in store and could verify it by checking the serial #s. Amazon is guaranteeing Q6600s with confirmed BX80562Q6600 SLACR, with G0 stepping but charging 220 (free shipping).

You might want to consider a Q6700 from TigerDirect for $260.

Good choice on the mobo. Mine should arrive from Newegg this afternoon. Throw in a few Scythe 120mm fans and you're good to go.

Keep us posted, I'd love to hear how your rig handles the SLI, and OCs.

Will do. I would think that there wouldn't be any more B3 steppings left out there, but maybe I'll email Microcenter and ask to make sure... Thanks for the heads up!

Ok, all parts ordered and should be arriving in the next week or so. As soon as everything comes in, I'll take pictures and start a build log. Thank you all for your help, and I'm sure I'll be asking plenty more questions throughout the build, lol.
