I found this today LINK it points out that speed is better than memory. I've also read that at 128bit 512 wouldn't be fully utilized.

With that said i'm wondering if i should spend a little extra. This only makes my decision harder though because it opens up some higher clocked 256mb 6800gt's /gts's as well as 512mb 2600xt's. I don't mind spending like 20$ more if it's really worth it...if it's not then i'd rather go cheap and keep an eye out for a deal later.
The more i read the more confused i get. With all this in mind which would you buy?

ATI
HIS Radeon HD 2600XT 256MB Cc 800MHz/Mc 1400MHz 50$

ASUS Radeon HD 2600XT 256MB Cc 800MHz/Mc 1400MHz 50$

MSI Radeon HD 2600XT 256MB Cc 800MHz/Mc 1400MHz 52$

HIS HD2600XT 512MB Cc 830MHz/Mc 1920MHz 70$

Nvidia
EVGA GeForce 8600GT 256MB Cc 540MHz/Mc 1400MHz 55$

XFX GeForce 8600GT XXX 256MB Cc 620MHz/Mc 1600MHz 65$

ASUS GeForce 8600 GT 256MB Cc 600MHz/Mc 2016MHz 66$

XFX GeForce 8600GT 256MB CC 540MHz/MC 1400MHz 68$

XFX GeForce 8600 GT 256MB Cc 680MHz/Mc 1600MHz 68$

MSI OC GeForce 8600GT 256MB Cc 580MHz/Mc 1600MHz 69$

MSI GeForce 8600GT 256MB Cc 540MHz/Mc 1400MHz 69$

ASUS GeForce 8600 GTS 256MB Cc 675MHz/Mc 2000MHz 70$

Also i need a hard drive and not sure if i want to go big IDE so i can replace my external(40g WD 2mb) with it and use that drive in my new box or get a sata for the new box. Thoughts?
I plan on a 250g w/16mb either way but also not sure on sticking with WD or go Seagate. Thoughts?

Again BIG thanks for the help!
