Few true questions

Well I just got my TRUE in, and the quality looks great. The finish on the part that makes contact with the cpu heat spreader looks great! Much better than my vendetta 2. I was worried about it to be honest cause I hear a lot of ppl have "marks" on their TRUE but mine looks finished very well.

Ok so the questions.. First I used a thermright bolt thru kit for my vendetta 2. Can I just use the mounts behind the mobo that came with it or should I replace it with the ones that came with the TRUE?

Next question is how tight do I tighten the screws?

Forgot one question... It came with some thermal compound... The Chill Factor. Is it any good or should I just use AS5?

Another dumb question I think this is the last one. Does it have any protective film on the bottom of it out of the box? I can't see any info on it in the manual

The mounts you currently have will work fine. I would use AS5 and if there is a protective film you should be able to see it no problem.

Off topic: but what temps did you see with your V2?

The back plate may work, you will just have to check and see if the TRUE screws fit.

The Chill Factor is suppose to be good stuff... I say give it a try.

Tighten the screws all the way until they stop. Also, you should google TRUE washer mod. Helps give an even tighter fit.

I also suggest going ahead and lapping the TRUE. Even if the surface looks good, you will get the best results by lapping.

At idle (realtemp) 37C at load 53-55. Using prime small ffts.

The finish on the TRUE looks a lot better than my vendetta 2 did. I would slap this fan on the V2 and give it a test run then compare to the TRUE but no ram atm. And I'm really bored so I'm not sure if I can wait a week or two more to put this on.

I'm rather amazed at the semi-mirror finish on the true. If put against a piece of paper I can the paper.

It does not matter how pretty or shiny it is. It is about how flat the surface is. Lapping it now will save you time of having to take it back off to do it in the future.

I'll see if the screws will actually screw into it before I try the mount.

I don't think I tightened my V2 down as much as needed if thats the case....

I'm still scared of lapping.... I didn't get the TRUE first because of lapping. I have no problem lapping the TRUE, but I hear it can decrease the performance if you don't also lap the cpu due to one being concave one being convex.

I'll test my temps before trying to lap it. My goal is < 50 (real temp) under stress tess. Would like to have idle < 35 (real temp) but my major concern is load. My e8400 seems to run hotter than most are reporting so hopefully the true will bring my temps down.

What did you have your 8400 clocked at with those temps with the V2?
I have the TRU, not the TRUE. I noticed about a 4C drop after lapping. I only lapped the TRU, not the cpu itself. I also stopped at 600 grit sand paper, so the surface was far from being mirror quality.

If you are uneasy about lapping the TRUE, I understand. But, it was no where near as bad as I thought it was going to be.
