Help me get my A+ - Page 3

From what I've heard from a co-worker that just tried to do the A+ test (and failed) they've changed it from the 2 separate tests and have made it one big test, they've taken out a lot of the obsolete stuff and have included some whmis questions as well. When I did my A+ all I did to study for it was get trancenders and test king practice tests and do them over and over till I had the questions memorized.

Plus money is tight with other things and the company I currently work for decided to quit paying for certifications. So certifications are on the back burner until I start my new job.
The latest job I interviewed for was great. No degree required….. just experience and certifications. For the area I live in the pay is really good ($22 hour). I actually got the job despite only have 2 years experience in the field.
Thats the beauty of an "accelerated learning" college that focuses on IT. You dont focus on gen eds at all. I spent my first semester just in gen eds and then the very next semester I was in IT related classes. I still took gen eds throughout (about 1 per semester and sometimes none) but it really wasnt a big deal.

Used that when I got mine. Its abunch of practice exams that you can take over and over and over again.

Any Mike Myers A+ Certification books are good. See if you can go to a community college book store and pick a used one up if they have one or just get a used one from Amazon.

Thread Starter
Aye, I'm actually looking int starting a strictly IT program at the local college. After that i may move on to a better university, but as i'm working full time it makes it difficult to do things quickly. I'm currently employed as a systems analyst, and i've been told i can move up quickly, as long as i apply myself. Also, i'm looking to actually learn the material, and not just pass the test, cause i don't want to shoot myself in the foot later on.

I've worked with computers since I was ten, also I have taken programming and admin courses in college (3.8 GPA). The old A+ test was so cryptic and full of unnecessary questions (there were a lot about 486's and this was only a few years ago.) the only way most people would pass it was to memorize the questions. If they really wanted to make the certification beneficial they would've made it practical like the Cisco stuff.

Me too, thats why I gave up on a degree from VCU and went to a local community college and only took the classes I wanted to take, no english, no biology, and no other BS. Sure I didn't get a degree, but I learned a great deal and passed the CCNA right after I finished my first semester. Unfortunately, universities do not teach you, they are a business and make money by getting everyone to take plenty of classes that have nothing to do with your degree. I now work at VCU helping oversee their network...granted I'm not high up on the IT ladder, but I just started not too long ago
