Need Advice - PSU for 8800 gtx sli?

Hey!

So, my current build is in my sig. It has a 700W OCZ power supply, and I plan to add a second 8800 gtx to the build. Do you think this PSU could handle it?

If not, let me know what PSU you think I should go with...
or if I should just do dual 8800 gts instead? Do you think the performance decrease would be greater then the cost savings?

I'm not strapped for cash, but at the same time I like to balance performance with cost.

Lemme know!

The 700W GameXstream is more than enough for a fully loaded quadcore system and 2xGTXes.... that PSU has a great combined 12V amperage with nice efficiency

My 600W version of that PSU is running my system just fine

Hmm, yes I think your alright with the the 700w ocz...though I have Ati 3870x2s'...and two separate psu that's cause the first one was only 550 and had only 2x 6-pin connectors.

Curious what os are you running? Noticed you have 8gb ram~!

The OCZ 700W should be fine. Save the money for now.

Cool beans.
I only have 2 6 pin connectors but I got converters I can use so that's n/p.

As for the ram... I'm running vista x64. Mainly got the ram because I use multiple adobe programs at once and multitask a ton(photoshop can kill both cpu and ram on its own sometimes).

The gtx's are the fun side of my rig, rest is mostly workhorse.

Hmm, where did you find the converters...I would like to get some myself?

I actually had 2 come with my card... bfg is dope.

You can probably find them on newegg though. It converts two 4 pin connectors to 1 6pin pcie.

I would be careful using those adapters with the GameXstreams. If you use those adapters, you will be putting your second gtx on the same rail with all of your peripherals (whatever is plugged into the molex and sata connectors). The rails have a max of 18A and the gtx itself will pull ~15A. Add in a couple hard drives and fans and you may overload the rail. It won't hurt to try, though. If the OCP is actually set at 18A, then it would just shut off if you drew too much power. No harm done. There's a chance that it isn't set at 18A, but I haven't found a review that actually tests that for the 700W GXS.
