Welcome!

Here is a guide that was written quite a while ago, but the principles on an AM2 system are pretty much the same. Pretty much the only thing that is different is that AM2 uses DDR2 and the associated differences therein.

Also, you'll want to lose that stock cooling. It's adequate up to a point, mainly when you want to start adding voltage. Voltage = heat in the case of CPUs. I suggest Thermaltake and Thermalright if you want to look for better cooling. There some other good companies out there but those are the only ones I have experience with. Another option is water cooling. Expensive, but very effective.

Put simply, start overclocking by raising your FSB up a few MHz at a time until your system becomes unstable. Test for stability using Orthos or two instances of prime95. Basically, the only way you can kill your hardware is with too much voltage. As I said, voltage = heat and heat is the main killer of electronics. Happy overclocking and good luch.
