Ugh. Double post. I always get "Database Error" when I try to post a large post with lots of text and stuff. It NEVER works properly. I always have to copy my post before I reply, and re-submit it most of the time and it still never works right.

Ok this one is retarded cheap, but I would not allow this in my house. I think I would build it in the garage and leave it there.

Rosewill Case $44.99 FREE Shipping

Gigabyte EP35 DS3L $89.99

Intel E2200 2.2GHz $79.99 FREE Shipping

Super-Talent 2x1GB DDR2 800 $39.99 FREE Shipping

XFX 8500 GT 512MB $85.99

Thermaltake 430W PSU $40.99 FREE Shipping

TOTAL
$381.94

Shipped
$392.50

At that point, shouldn't he just buy a Dell?

Good isn't a strong enough word, mine will run at 4Ghz on the stock cooler.

But really, what more could yours do than a $400 build for someone who is just using it to goof online with?
Not everybody needs the fastest stuff there is.
Heck, most don't need anything more than onboard video, a basic dual core processor (most don't even need that) and 1-2 gigs memory.

I can understand wanting to get the "best", but the truth is, the best is different for everybody.

No. You need to build for his needs. A Dell would probably work for him, but for the same price, he will be getting a much better machine (Dell would have onboard video, 1 gig shared memory, probably a < 2ghz Celeron)

Ugh. I dunno. I know my PC is going to take a giant dump on that computer if it comes inside my house.

I need to do more research if we are going to go stupid cheap. If we are going to go stupid cheap, why not go as stupid cheap as humanly possible?

Why not. If you can build a system for $250 (I have recently) and it meets his needs, he will think your a genius.

Just curious, what was his old computer?
If it has a 40 gig drive, I am guessing a Socket A or Socket 478 rig?

ouch, thats hardly a PC to game on at all.

Ill be surprised if it can even load any recent games before screaming 'WHAT THE *%@#'

And Dell is never the answer: with dell you pay a 30%+ markup on hardware on top of the fact that you pay for a warranty you almost never use.

Be a good freind, Just get him the first build you posted.. for an extra $150 or so, he gets a PC that is actually worthy of gaming on
