[Yahoo!] GTA IV Star only made $100k and wants more. - Page 4

yeah he's SOL. Sorry he agreed to how much he felt was fair before even getting one syllable recorded. If he felt he should be paid according to a percentage of how much the game made or even more of a base pay, he's the retard that didn't seek it. No sympathy. He was paid for the task and he agreed to it. Suck it up and use that experience and success to gain other roles.

Also I want to point out it doesn't matter how much Rockstar or Taketwo made on this game. Conversely, if they lost money would it be fair that he be expected to give some of his 100k back?

And stop blaming it on him. If anyone has dealt with unions before, this is how it typically goes.
He is just the VOICE.

$100k is a fair amount for an "extra" actor like him. Check his Filmo-graphy; "First Biker", "Coach", "Hot Dog Street Vendor"...dudes roles dont even have a NAME. He is LUCKY to have landed that $100k gig.

He did voice acting, which many people underrate the difficulty of, and he did it well. The game has made HUGE profits with his voice and in any other work environment that uses voice acting, excluding internet and gaming, he would get a piece of the pie. It's all in the union which doesn't have good guides for game actors... It was a 100,000 dollars for 15 months of work. That's pretty good, until you realize that you helped in the making of 600,000,000 dollars worth. Even if he were to get only 1% of the profits, because that's probably all any of you think he deserves, that is still 6,000,000 dollars! 6 MILLION!
Then why did he go into voice acting for a game? It was HIS CHOICE. And he agreed to do the work for $100,000, without getting a piece of the pie. Now, just because the game is making lots of money, he wants more? How is that fair? He already AGREED to payment WITHOUT a "piece of the pie", so why does he deserve a piece now?

And there's no way anyone on staff on this project (except maybe head devs) would get paid even close to 1%! That'd be ridiculous. If everyone who had a part in the game was paid 1% of the revenues of the game, Rockstar would be paying out like 1000% of what they are making on it (I can guarantee that at least 1000 people were involved in the making of the game)! Not to mention the publishing/advertising costs they already have to pay.... I would say maybe, just MAYBE the voice actor deserves 1/100th of a percent of the revenues, but even that would be stretching it. Regardless, if he wanted to be paid more, he should have negotiated that BEFORE he started work.

He said yes and took the job and agreed upon the pay. Just because the game was successful now he wants more money.

Boo Hoo there were lots of actors who lent their voice to the game for nothing and just did the parts for free.

it works both ways. good voice actors make all the difference in games. take haze for example. the voice acting is horribly poor and it just ruins the atmosphere of the game. the voice acting in GTA IV is spot on. Its funny, witty, and you dont hardly go for 1 minute at a time without niko saying something new. It is a big part of the game and for it to have already made something like 4 or 5 million, 50K is nothing for the voice actor of the main character. Yes, the developers are the ones behind it all but if niko had a shallow and bland voice actor it just wouldnt be the same. He's right to want more money, You wouldnt settle for 50K for acting the main character of a blockbuster movie, and this game makes more money than a blockbuster movie, so he has every right to want more money.

Why is he complaining... If someone told me to talk for 15 months and make 100,000 I wouldn't even think twice...

being an actor and being a voice actor is two completely different things, there is a lot more work involved in being an actor for a blockbuster movie then standing in a room reading off a script to a mic

and it wasn't voice acting that made haze crap, it was everything, from graphics to gameplay; the voice acting was the least of its worries

there is no ability involved in being a voice actor, $100k is very fair
