[Yahoo!] GTA IV Star only made $100k and wants more. - Page 7

For the most part I read each and every post in this thread with 'Niko's' voice. Aside from my own insanity, though, a contract is a contact. So long as it's air-tight, then no governmental body has ANY right to break the legal binds behind said contract.

I can understand what he's thinking, but the way he's going about it is wrong. He should go and form a video game voice actor's branch to the voice actor's union. From there he could get a nice cushy job on their board of chair-warmers (heh).

He'll get smashed down in court and he'll never work again. What a great plan, too. Especially as I liked his voice. 'WOOHOO'. Hehehe.

He still probley made more then anyone that actually worked on the game. What about the people that slaved away at their computers programming to make GTA 4 the masterpiece it is. Maybe he should have read his contract before signing it?

Or he could just lobby to have the video game voice actors not be members of the screen actor's guild, but be regular capitalistic freelancers.

-Yes it was, if 100k was not good enough for this guy.. then why did he take the job ? 100k for 1 title is awesome IMHO
Alright, so if you were paid $1 to voice act in a random pc game and the game ended up making $6000 in profit, wouldn't you try to get more money?

No, because I'd agreed to do the work for $1 to start with. Of course, I'd never agree to do that, but that's just me.

With something like this being so incredibly out there in the public eye now I see voice actors asking for more and more cash for their roles. But hey, it's their right.

It's voice acting. I'm not saying that it's easy, or that anyone can do it, but it sure as Hell doesn't require a college degree. You just need to be able to freaking voice act. If he wouldn't have done it, then they could have found someone else. He signed a contract saying that he'd get $100,000 x hours. He signed it, end of story. If he wanted more, then he should have been clear about that since the get go, instead of whining about his union not doing his own job for him.

And he mentioned 15 months of work, but how many hours was that? Was he really working 40 hours weeks for 15 months straight? I doubt it. $100,000 was a good deal for what he was doing.

Oh I absolutely agree. Next time he wants to do a voice-acting job for anyone, he can require whatever the heck he wants as far as royalties go. It's just, well, he's gotta do it beforehand. It just doesn't work after the fact, which is what this guy is trying to do now.

Ok, here's another thing about the voice over industry. Stuff like this isn't salaried. He didn't agree to get $100,000 ahead of time. He agreed to be paid scale wages daily until the recording was finished. He didn't know how much he was going to get in the end.

Interesting... but this doesn't change my viewpoint.
