I say, welcome to life. Glad you could join us in the 21st century.

It's obvious consumerism at it's best. It's capitalism for you. It's the drive for more, the need for speed.

What would be your point in writing your paper, to prove that people are suckered into the world in which they live? That they have become prey to capitalistic markets that insist that people must have more and more and more?

I'd say it's pretty damn obvious.

And yet, we all do it... gee I wonder why that is...

edit: and don't take this as a personal attack. I'm just trying to stir up some intellectual conversation and make it stimulating! This should help you with your paper

You could also talk about hardware addiction, which i think ,most people here suffer from, and also the relentless drive of marketing that makes us want to be better

also how such consumerism is vital to the American Dream for the chaps benefitting from nVidia's profits...

... if that makes sense

I got a 9800GX2 overclocked to 670Mhz/1674Mhz/2054Mhz.

Crysis and Age of Conan is acualy lagging sometimes :\\ Crysis runs with Medium.. ( stil a sort of lag ). I might think this is a temperature problem

What resolution and settings are you running at? Your system should be able to play Crysis decently at even high resolutions with moderate AA/AF

This is old but thought I'd chime in...

Some of us NEED the card and NEED good framerates.

I for one wouldn't (and don't) bother to play a game competitively unless I have over 75fps steady at all times... and I mean at all times when I say it - never below 75fps, no matter what is being rendered.

Trying to get 'good' at a game with a low framerate is like trying to win a F1 race with a Prius, it doesnt matter how skilled you are - You fail.

I think you posted this on the wrong enthusiast site.

Practically all of us drool at high end video cards, Crossfire, SLI, Quad SLI, Tri-SLI...

I get shivers just typing it all...

I have a 9800GTX, why? because it lets me play what i want to at the settings i want to with AA.... No more, no less.

Also, alot of games, especially Unreal engine games, dictate netspeed with framerate. Someone from NY may ping 55 to a chicago server, where that same person getting 30fps, while the mouselag is already making it tough to play, would get a 65-80 ping... Dont worry, ive tested this too (UT2k4)...

My current system is as follows:

Intel Celeron DC 1.6ghz (OC 2.96ghz)
OCZ 4GB DDR2 (OC 1.1ghz)
2 x Raptor 36GB RAID 0 Boot
2 x WD 500GB RAID 0 Programs
GEFORCE 8800GT 512MB (OC 720mhz)

The machine cost me almost nothing and runs everything great

I'm about to pop the Celeron DC into my HTPC and switch to the Intel E2180 (since my OC didn't go as well as I wanted it too and I'd like the 1MB cache) hopefully I can bust into the 3.2ghz range with my AF7 cooler on this CPU.

Do i need more? No.
Would I spend tons more for more? No.
Would I take it for free? Sure.
Would I rather drive fat cars, cruise in my boat, ride the jet ski, watch HD movies in the home theater then spend $2k on my PC? Yes.

TBQH once you pop that 2180 into that i cant think of anything more youd need to be able to play anything out there (within reason on settings). Sure it might not be the fastest or the best on benches but it serves its purpose which is the important thing.

Its the same reason a lot more members are getting 8GB of ram. Computer components are getting cheaper so there is no reason not to!
