Should I be using my card's specific drivers?

Thread Starter
I have an HIS x1650 pro AGP card. I read somewhere that you should only install the drivers that HIS recommends for their specific model cards. OOPS! They recommend that with the x1650 agp's that ati driver 8.432 and catalyst 7.11 be used. I currently have installed catalyst 8.4 and driver 8.467. Does it really make a difference on which driver I have? I was going to update to the 8.5 drivers, but I wanted to hear what you all had to say first.

Also, if it does, how to I uninstall the drivers I have now and reinstall the old catalyst and drivers? (that just doesnt seem right to me though)

yes, it improves the stability of your card and its software and it would be more accurate.

Edit: use the current drivers that ATI has out.

alright thanks. also, if I install the new 8.5, do I need to uninstall everything first, or will 8.5 uninstall the old and reinstall the new?

u should use DriverCleanerPro its free. its really depends on the card for which drivers you should use. its a trail and error thing. enjoy!
