Q9450 setup needs a mb

I am thinking about using Q9450 for a setup that would do alot of rendering. such as 3d max. the board i have is asus p5b deluxe. it does not support 1333 fsb. I probably wont overclock this cpu. what mother board you guys recommend?

How far does your Q6600 overclock? If you have a good overclocker (~3.5GHz or more), going from your Q6600 to a Q9450 isn't much of an upgrade (if any). Only when you really need the SSE4 instruction set would I recommend the expense from your current set up to a Q9450 + new motherboard.

Ok, having that said:

I use 3D Max, Bryce, Soap, PS CS3, so I think going with the Q9xxx series is great, and you can't beat 12MB of Cache. I like eVGA stuff so I went with there board.

I just got that DFI board as an upgrade from my P5N-E today

Which board you should get depends on your budget. If you wanna spend less, the gigabyte DS3L is a good choice, if you wanna spend more the abit ip35 pro is a good board, and if you wanna spend even more you could look at the evga 780i or one of the high-end ASUS X48 boards, for example.

Oh, and chozart--there are a couple people over in the intel CPU forum who have managed 3.5GHz on their q9450's. With the extra cache and SSE4.1, I'm guessing they'll outperform similarly and even higher clocked q6600's by a reasonable margin....

edit: Mind, some people seem to be having trouble getting q9450's over 3.2GHz or so. It seems to be related to VID--at least one of the 3.5GHz ones I've seen was a 1.1225 VID, whereas one of the guys who's still trying to get stable at ~3.2 is a 1.2325 or so (can't recall exactly).
