[INQ] Intel faces massive EU censure - report

EU INVESTIGATORS have decided that Intel has been a very naughty chip maker and will hand it a severe spanking when the verdict is delivered in late summer, according to the FT Deutschland.

Citing sources in Brussels, the paper says Intel will be forced to stop offering customers rebates in return for exclusivity. The firm will also have to stop subsidising retailers' advertising, which could mean the end of its boing bingly-bing-bong annoyance at the end of such ads.

The punishment Intel is in line to receive will be one the most severe in the EU's history, the paper said.

According to the report, EU commissioner Neelie Kroes has already made her mind up, and the lady is not for turning.

After months of investigations into Intel's business practices, Eurocrats have enough evidence to throw the book at Intel, it appears. They will now spend the summer adding weight to that book.

A shocked Intel in the US promised us a comment once its senior spinners awake. µ
Is the axe finally coming down on Intel? So AMD doesn't get any deserved and desparately needed payment out of this?

Whether Intel deliver superior products is irrelevant.

What the problem is, is that Intel pay people to buy there products and the retailers advertising.

The discounts is extremely common, IBM, Dell, they all do it, that is why if you ask a college how many computers and of what type, they won't tell you.

The issue was mostly that AMD had no ability to deliver what the OEM's needed, and a few other issues related to AMD's size. Everyone knew that, AMD just saw an opportunity, and a weak court system.

Go EU screw intel, they dominate the market by, in plain and simply english, CHEATING, ok fine they have better products for for the mean time, but the market place should be a fair lever playing ground, not one where intel dominates because they have more money and push the little people out.
I've been waiting for this for a long time, maybe amd can have a break in the cpu arena.

The EU is evil.

Regardless of this Intel CPU stuff, they are pure evil.

They will come up with any excuse to get more money and stuff their own pockets.

Haha, Intel. Cheating? Is it their fault they actually DELIVERED their products on time, and they were far superior to the current AMD offerings? ITS CALLED COMPETITION and without it the prices for intel cpu's in the EU are just going to go up and up and up and up and up. I pity the fool who takes the side of the EU court in this matter, Its outright communism plain and simple.

They seem to be doing a lot of stupid stuff, mostly taking the big company dominating the market and cripple them some how, and then attempt to bring in some smaller guy.

Where is your logic?

How does a ruling against a massive corporation equate to a weak court system?

In fact, Europeans have been the only ones to slap a multitude of American corporations around a bit. Better than letting them run rampant like they do in North America lobbying any way they want and posting peons into political offices to direct the market and politics.

Whether they are doing it to fill their own coffers or not, I do not care. The point is they are putting them in their place as they should and not letting them be the supreme overseer of everything.

Looks like Intel just hit the FSB wall and it's called the EU.
