Help. XFX memory speed question.

Thread Starter
I have a question. Apparently the XFX 9800GX2 XT is shipped at 640MHz core - 1600MHz shader and 2050MHz Memory.

Have a look at my GPU-Z screen-shot and tell me what you think.

Can you help me understand this?

its not the two added together is it?

None of the numbers listed have anything to do with the RAMDAC.

A RAMDAC generates the clock signals that go to the monitors, and have no effect on performane beyond what resolution and refresh rates are allowed.

Most cards have used the same dual 400MHZ RAMDACs for years.

As for your memory clock rate, 1025MHz is the real clock, but as DDR transfers twice per clock, it is 2050MHz "equivalent", more properly written as 2050MT/s (million transfers per second).

Thanks for the info m8.

I have another question if you dont mine.

I OC'd the graphics card to

702 c/ 1700 s/ 1048 m

and set my FSB to 400 with a CPU x of 9

The thing is my memory is now running at 1601MHz and the timings are something like 9 9 9 24.

My memory was shipped at 1333MHz timings 6 5 5 18 when i try to change my timings in the bios it wont boot after it makes the changes,

So, What I'm trying to do is boot 1333MHz 6-5-5-18 Ram at 1601MHz 6-5-5-18. Does the timing have to increase with the speed of the ram?

also.

I now have a intel XQ9650 at 3.6GHz at 52c on load.
the NB is 42c
and my Graphics card is 72c load.

Is this safe.
Thanks for your help lads.

There are multiple factors why your system won't boot when you try the stock timings with a higher frequency. It could be that you need more voltage for your memory, more voltage for your northbridge, looser timings or a combination of the three.

You can use the User CP link at the top of the page to fill in your system specs so we have a better idea of what you're using and in turn can help you with things like this.

yea the RAM doesnt have enuf volts cuz its trying to keep up with your higher colcked FSB. So either...

a)increase RAM volts
b)unlink your RAM from FSB and lower speed back to stock till you get stable then OC RAM
c)use a different FSB/RAM speed divider
