was wordering if i could get some help with OCing cause i just put together my computer (that was a ****in headache) and have finishing updatign BIOS and drivers and firmware and all that bs. i get the bacis cocepts bc i overclocked my gpu in previous computer, but im lost with all the voltages ram timings, heres my specs if you could help it would be apperciated

im not an absolute retard so i pick things up quickly just need to be headed in the right direction

MB: asus- m3n78-emh hdmi micro atx( its asus' nvdia geforce 8200 hybrid sli board)
CPU: amd athlon x2 5000+ brisbane amd2 65w (2.6ghz)
HEATSINK/FAN:RCX-Z5 cooler/heatsink
GPU:bfg geforce 8500 gt
RAM: 2x 1gig OCZ reaper HPC ddr2 800 ; 2x512mb corsair xms2 ddr2 800
DVDROM drive
DVDRW+- drive
160 gig HD(from old computer)
Case:APEVIA X-Dreamer ATXB3KLW-GN w/ 2x80mm fans side top w/vent everywhere/ temp monitor in front (dont know how to connect cases fans so i can you the chassis fan control feature, fans are 4pin and connection is 3pin
PW SUPPLY: 420w
OS:vista ult
and i currently have mb GPU and dGPU using hybrid sli funtion so combinded they equal geforce 8600 i guess

I followed this guide

http://www.overclock.net/amd-general...ocket-am2.html

It explains things very well.

If you can overclock your 8500gt with the weird hybrid sli heres my guide to overclocking the GPU-

You will need -
Lots off free time
EVGA Precicion (You will have to sign up)
ATITool (Works on nVidia too)

First open up evga precision. There are 3 sliders. One is core, one is shaders, one is memory. First click the Unlink clocks button. First start on the core. Open up ATITool and click 'Scan for artifacts'. A window with a pink fuzzy thing will open. Then in EVGA precision slowly move the core slider up. STOP when you see any small yellow dots (These are known as artifacts). Record the hightest point you got to. Once you see any dots move the core slider back down 20mhz or so. Next do the same with shaders and memory. You may have to back the core down a bit to get a stable overclock on all three. Finally to check it is completely stable run the ATITool artifact scanner for at least 30 minutes, check carefully to make sure there are NO yellow dots or errors displayed at the bottom.

As for the CPU and RAM the above guide would be a good start

If you have any problems, post back and we'll help

Are you running those 4 sticks at the same time ??

If you are, I wouldn't be overclocking. I don't even think you can without running into some serious stability issues. AMD's don't run well with all 4 memory slots used up - specially matching sticks that aren't the same.

I would take out the Corsairs, and stick with the OCZ's. Then get back to overclocking.

Well spotted. I would also just stick to the OCZ RAM for overclocking. You can always *try* the Corasair RAM after you get a stable overclock.

alrite thx ya ill do that i got the corsairs for free, should i not use hybrid sli? cause it doesnt let me oc shader clock and it shows 0 mem clcok on all OCing apps because the monitor is connected to the mb to use the hybrid sli and in bios it uses internal gpu first and sets aside 256mb of ram to the sli frame buffer but it gives me 1.6 gb video mem insted of the gig i would have or should i keep it and oc everything else?

i think my bios update fixed compatibilty issues with all ram slots being used but ill take um out anyway

To be honest I have no knowledge of hybrid sli . The only way to find out would be to run 3dmark06 with hybrid SLI enabled. Then run it with Hybrid SLI disabled and the 8500gt overclocked. That would be the only way to work out which is best .

from what i gather hybrid sli is just sli between the mb gpu and the dgpu only a couple(literaly a couple) mb's and gpu's work with the setting of it that i use it was by chance that i got both of them

i was thinking about that but to deactivate it i have to go thru the whole unistalling drivers episode on vista, i guess i try it

btw anyone no how i can get control of my case fans cause i no they can go faster but wen i plug the fans into the mb the comp wont turn on??

Have you tried turning off automatic fan cotrol in the BIOS. That sometimes causes issues.
