790i is DEAD!! :( :(

Thread Starter
Ok so I have NO idea what has happened to my sig pc... EVERY TIME I start it up now it just freezes at post code 52 which means (according to my user manual)

"memory test: test all memory of memory above 1MB using Virtual 8086 mode, page mode and clear the memory"

Well I have cleared the CMOS... I have tested each stick (of two) independently, I have tested each DIMM slot.... I have NO idea why it's doing this. I have tried everything I can think of except KICK THE MOTHER BLASTED THING and it's not passing that 52 post code...

I have not recently installed anything new; I have had a stable overclock (ran prime for 10 hours without any errors) without overvolting the ram and I have had this overclock for a few weeks without this problem (but have had other 790i problems.... CURSE THE STUPID BOARD)

Please help me ppl... I don't have another ddr3 pc available to cross test components on so I don't know what to do

Sounds like the ram bro

Try making a memtest CD and booting from that...if memtest fails, you have faulty ram. Doesn't sound like the board.

Its not dead! I have a 750i and I got the same thing. First question, did you try and OC your quad, and if so, did you link or unlink the w/e there called(idk its late and i forget) Your RAM can't keep up with your proc.
-edit- =\\ Why did you go DDR3? lol try underclocking your ram

is this board making it to BIOS/POST?

If its not posting take out all your RAM and try 1 stick of RAM at a time, in all slots. Tedious but might work.

Also if that doesn't work, try this first

While posting, power on, wait till you see it run through the codes, before it gets to 52, hit the reset button 2 times, wait for next boot.... see if that does anything (sometimes boot may freeze due to double hitting reset, if that happens, kill PSU and do cold boot and try 1 button press)

Also, when I had that error, sometimes it would take about 60seconds to POST, then i would get to windows and it would bluescreen. Can you get into the BIOS?

I overclocked the cpu to 3.2 constant.... it's been running this overclock STABLE for several weeks now. I have not had this problem untill today out of nowhere.

I have reset the cmos, so even if I did have a setting wrong that just now magically decided to start messing things up (verses about 3 weeks ago when I first changed the settings) than it should have fixed.

The computer has run COMPLETELY fine untill now, and I already tried each stick of ram in each slot and still no response

ram WAS linked and synchronous, now Its at whatever stock is (auto)

I cannot access my BIOS menu; I guess that means it doesn't fully post.

There i think I addressed everything... and I have in the past had problems with the board going through post anyway so I do think its the board.... ugh

Did you try the reset while POST?

This has happened to me, I got stuck on 08, a reset during POST fixed it.

yes sir. Tried it like 15 times in a row. Isn't it SO ridiculous that we pay over 300 bucks for a board that requires ghetto methods to just make it fricking turn on?? Sorry i'm just really ticked right now

Hmmm. From what your sayin, it can either be your RAM or your board. But I can't see 2 sticks of high performance RAM going at the same time. I think it may be your board dude. Look it over, check for any physical signs of damage. If not, keep trying. If it was me, I would want to know for sure it isn't working before I RMA'd it. Any of your friends got some DDR3? Ask to borrow it for a day and try and see if that works. Try posting on EVGA's forums to, they can be of help also. I think there are a few reports if i'm not correct, of people having similar issues as your having.

I don't have any friends with DDR3 memory... I was the first suckered into it. I wanted to be able to upgrade to uber-fast memory later when DDR3 goes down in price... oh well. Anyway so I guess I will call EVGA and see what they say. but I was thinking the same thing BOTH sticks of brand new high performance RAM that i didn't overvolt should not die at the same time.
