bad VID for e8400? - Page 2

You can't, but some places don't check or care too much apparently..

Just because the VID is high doesn't mean you can't get a decent clock out of it, it just most likely won't be extreme. Your motherboard, ram, and power supply play just as much apart in how high you can clock your cpu as the cpu itself does.

My advice is to use the chip and see how it does. RMA it and there is no guarantee you will get a better one.

Yeah, I will try to OC. I know VID doesn't necessarily predict overclock, but honestly, after getting a 1.325v I was unimpressed to say the least. But every chip is different.

Do you know what these people used to find the VID?

The box my CPU came in says 1.25v max, RealTemp says 1.2250v, CoreTemp say 1.1125v, my BIOS reports 1.18-1.2v at stock, whiel CPU-Z shows 1.22v idle stock/1.2v load.

Without knowing were the owner/user saw the VID, the VID is pretty dubious.

The thing about quad core's are they really tax the northbridge hard. My Q6700 on my motherboard I couldnt get stable past 334Mhz FSB, but on my friends motherboard with x48 chipset I took it up to 380 FSB and it was perfectly stable.

That dual core cpu you should probably still be able to get to 4Ghz with, also a powersupply that has 60A+ on a single rail you'll find more success with... your powersupply is split up onto 3 different rails..You'rs appears to have 19A on 3 diff 12v rails.

see I know it's a dud since I could get 3.6 on my Q6600, but nowhere near 3.5 at 1.5v for the Q6700. Terrible VID 1.325v
