Testing New Parts on Friends MOBO

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I am about to start my new build, but I want to get all my parts when they are on sale. Since all the parts that I want aren't going to be on sale at the same time I was wondering if I can test the parts on my friends MOBO since my MOBO is old and doesn't support 775 CPU, PCI-E Cards, and DDR2 Memory. I just want to pop my new parts into his MOBO and see if part is DOA or not, but I am worried that it will somehow mess up his computer. I am wondering if it is safe to try my new parts on his MOBO. Will this have any effects on his computer for example I know if you do some hardware changes XP asks for the product key again. Will I have this sort of problem? Thanks

Likely yes, XP will ask for a renewed authentication.

Also, with a GPU, his drivers might get messed up and he'll need to re-install drivers (esp. when you have the 'other' brand of card).

Do keep in mind that his motherboard might not support the CPU, even though it's socket LGA775.
