PCworld compares the dual core chips from both AMD and Intel. Bet you can't guess who comes out ahead...
"Dual-core chips build in two processing cores, in effect giving you two CPUs in a single piece of silicon. You also get two L2 memory caches, one for each core; the 2.4-GHz Athlon 64 X2 4800+ chip that we tested, for example, had 1MB of L2 cache per core. The 64-bit Athlon 64 X2 chips ship in June, joining currently available dual-core Opteron server and workstation CPUs. Systems should soon be available from vendors such as Acer, Alienware, HP, and Lenovo."
A 21" CRT monitor for only $59.99? Not a bad deal if you aren't ready to jump on the LCD bandwagon just yet.
"The Nokia 445XiPlus is an enhanced version of the award winning 445Xi 21" (19.69 VIS) color monitor. With an impressive 88 Hz refresh rate at a super sharp 1600 x 1200 resolution, the 445XiPlus is perfect for demanding business and technical applications such as high resolution imaging, CAD/ CAM, graphic design and engineering."
I got a real kick out of this one. CNN is reporting that 1/3 of studies are useless..
"That means nearly one-third of the original results did not hold up, according to the report in Wednesday's Journal of the American Medical Association."
How's this for ironic. Intel sponsored an event in which AMD won first place honors.
"Intel, who was master of ceremonies during the entire event, had to acknowledge the defeat, but didn’t take the fair-play too far by “personally†presenting the award to AMD, its rival."
Another day, another look at the 7800GTX in SLI. I can't wait until I get my hands on one of these cards.
"The 7800GTX is a long video card. Compared to last year's 6800 Ultra, the 7800GTX is approximately 1.5 inches longer than the previous generation video card. One thing NVIDIA has improved on is the 7800GTX is only a single slot solution. Previous NVIDIA high-end video cards have taken up 2 slots on a motherboard, lowering the expansion options on any board it's installed on.
