HDMI looks like Composite HD3850 - Page 2

To be a little more clear about what's going on with this..

1. DVI (PC) works just like it should.. (color is off, but can be tweaked out)

2. HDMI works, but looks like I've taken VIVO video out (aka composite or yellow RCA) to an old tv.. IDK how many have ever used the 'tv out' on their cards, but it always looks bad of course.. Well that's the kind of quality I get with this card and HDMI.. Yes, much much worse than DVI..

3. 1366x768@60 is my LCD's native res. However 1280x720 is the only res. that fits my LCD when using the HDMI.. DVI, it fits at any res.

This isn't that big of a deal for me really.. DVI looks just fine.. I just wanted to make sure this wasn't how it was intended to look..

I went to Fry's- lmao @ Fry's and their $189.99 HD3850 256mb.. I passed on that.. I just ordered another one from Newegg.. It'll be here in a few days and then I'll know if its my TV or the card..

Hopefully it's the card and not the TV.. If it is the card, maybe it can still run 4x in Xfire without the same issues.. I'll let you know..

Thanks guys..

Must just be card or TV. Cables make no difference. When I first bought my PS3 i payed $200 for a cable and it looks exactly the same as the one I got for $5 from Japan on eBay!

I guess it depends on what TV you'll be using as to how good it will look? Right now I have my 3870 hooked up via HDMI to my Sony Bravia XBR 40". The TV is native 1080p and I set the card to that also (1920x1080). Everything looks amazing, the colors are spot on, and sound (great sound, actually) comes through the HDMI cable.

I've only tried playing F.E.A.R. on it so far, and it looks wonderful. I watched a trailer of "The Hulk" from Apple's website (the hi-def version) and it looked amazing. It took forever to load, but it was gorgeous.

I'm using a cheap HDMI cable that I got from the 'Egg and I kept the same settings on my TV that I use for HD viewing through cable.

Like Lxcivic2k1 said, it leaves some black around the desktop. I'm not sure why, but you get used to it. To the original poster, I hope you get it figured out

If this is considered off-topic, I apologize

I'm sure my problem is isolated to just me.. I searched online for most of last night and the only HDMI issues I can find are Audio issues.. ATI is better in HDMI from what I read..

I still think for $105 after rebate that this card is the best $/perfomance card out.. I score just over 12k in 3DM06, and most all my games play at high or very high settings and res.. It'll most likely provide for my needs until the 4xxx line is replaced next winter..

Actually it's the opposite of that.. I lose about 2" of desktop on all sides.. Those 2" are off screen..
