SLI 9600GT 1GB with another 1GB or 512MB? - Page 4

Blameless-

You make great points that I agree with. I don't think the 1GB card is right for everyone or for every situation.

AoC is just one example right now of a brand new game that takes advantage of it. It's also interesting that one of the ways it does so is completely unexpected.

So all I'm saying is that I believe, as does almost everyone else in the industry, 1GB will become more relevant over the next year or two. Of course any of today's cards will be outrun by tomorrow's. The advantage of 1GB now is to extend the useful life 6 months to a year by making games a little more playable over their 512MB counterparts.

lol, why downgrade to an 8 series when i have a 9 series, dude, im good with this card, i play what i want at the settings i like, compared to my last setup, which was a radeon 3850 8x AGP card, this card abuses that one, so im good, i dont need anything else but another one to SLI this card with and thats it, besides, i dont want to waste money so much on video cards, i rather use that money to buy condoms and have sex all the time with my girl than sit her an argue like nerds about stupid numbers on stuff that dont really matter

So we have some people saying the 1GB can't show a benefit over 512, and we have me saying it can. From my point of view, it's up to me to prove it's there.

So without trying to drag the argument out I'm working on getting the screen shots and the FPS figures. I'll post what I have as soon as I'm done and we can all see if there is a difference for ourselves.

I also know that these kind of results can usually be skewed to show whatever you want so I'll show exactly what I did so other people can repeat it if they want and see I'm not just making it up.

All I really want people to take away from this is that the 256-bit bus and the GPU speed may limit the total amount of benefit, but those things don't prevent any benefit at all. How much benefit you get is subjective and I want to post some results so people can make up their own mind.

AoC is the only example available now. I suppose Crysis technically shows an improvement but it just takes you from an unplayable framerate to a faster but still unplayable framerate. So that doesn't really count in my mind.

Many new games coming out, of which AoC is an example, will actually benefit from the additional memory. All I'm asking for is a chance to prove it before everyone jumps me, LOL.

I'm running behind because I just bent a couple pins on my mobo so I have to run back to Fry's to get a new one. It's the weekend and my grill is calling me so just bear with me for a day or two while I get this put together.

You can SLI that card just fine with a 512MB version, but you'll only be using 512MB from each card.
