[DSL Reoprts] Comcast Hacked

I wasn't sure where to put this, but thought it might be of interest as many people use Comcast:

Comcast Hacked
Comcast Network Solutions Account Compromised?
08:33AM Thursday May 29 2008 by Karl
tags: business · trouble · Comcast
Starting late yesterday, Comcast users began noticing that Comcast.net has been hacked. More technically, early indications are that someone hacked Comcast's registrar account at Network Solutions, changing the authoritative DNS servers for comcast.net -- rerouting portal visitors to IP addresses in Germany or elsehwere. Where once Comcast's portal sat, users were instead greeted with the following text (see screenshot):
KRYOGENICS Defiant and EBK RoXed Comcast

The problem is impacting user access to the Comcast portal, webmail (obviously) and the official Comcast forums. Though there's no indication that user privacy is jeopardized, you may want to avoid using Comcast webmail until things have been completely cleared up. Comcast tells us they're aware of the problem.

"We are aware of the problem and working to get this resolved as quickly as possible," says one technician. "Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may be causing." According to the tech, Comcast DNS servers have been corrected, but it will take some time for the fix to propagate out to other servers.

"Depending on the TTL for those servers, this could take several hours and in rare cases, longer," he says. Several users tell me that when they called Comcast customer support, they were told that the outage was due to "routine maintenance."

I noticed something odd last night when, between opening browsers, the Comcast page changed a bit for me...

Okay, before people start talking about stuff they shouldn't, here's what you can discuss:

Internet Security
Comcast's Server Security
Like/Dislike Comcast (please explain why)

Here's what you can't:
"Horray h4x!"
Advocation of hacking

Personally, this just sends a message to Comcast that people don't like them throttling their bandwidth.

Advocation of hacking

I'm going out on a limb here, please let me know if my comment is out of line...

Of late, Comcast has been using some business methods that a lot of their customers have not been happy with. The whole P2P situation, and the bandwidth capping/throttling would piss me off...

Hence my explanation of why Comcast has issues with their website.

Being hacked sucks. People are constantly probing systems looking for open doors, and it's unfortunate that so many peoples accounts are vulnerable (or hopefully not).

Did the hackers give any reasoning behind the attacks, or was it just a malicious wishing they are cool thing?
Yes...
a little disturbing
you'd think this sort of thing wouldn't
happen with today's
advanced security and stuff.
comcast has been pissing a lot of people off lately, this
kind of thing was bound to happen sooner or later..

This affects the customers more than Comcast if anything. If they don't like Comcast for throttling their bandwidth they should try something else than hacking Comcasts webportal.
